Here's a quick run down on changing the oil in any car.

Materials

- 5 quarts motor oil
- Oil filter
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil drain pan
- Wrench

Here's an idea of how much this stuff cost to get. The 5 quarts of oil was around $8. Fram oil filter was around $3. Oil filter wrench was around $4. Oil drain pan was around $4. Wrench I have no clue came with a set, you should have one though..

oilchangeZ28's 1986 Chevrolet CamaroThis is my '86 Z28 Camaro. Aight, basically you want to get all your equipment ready. I go with 5 quarts of Pennzoil 10w-30 and that's the average but you could go with a thicker 10w-40 if you live in a year round warm weather. 10w-40 is thicker and therefore unpractical in the winter or cold climate. Next, get an oil filter that is recommended on your model car. I go with Fram PH30 ExtraGaurd. Get an oil filter wrench like the one shown toward the bottom of the page. Make sure it fits around your oil filter though (usually somewhere in the mid 70 mm's). Get an oil drain pan and your wrench (5/8 probably) and your set.

oilchangeZ28's 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Raise the front of the vehicle using the car jack. Elevate it only enough to give you access to the underside of the engine and give you some room to move a wrench. If you have jackstands use them too. Never depend on your car jack while you under the car. A lot of jacks can fail and then you know what can happen..I'm using a high quality hydraulic jack..Made by Rally, supports 4 tons of central weight and is strong. Try and find a good spot to set the jack. Don't set the jack on a weak or frail spot under the car or your just going to mess things up for yourself. Take your time and be patient because you can get seriously injured if you don't..
