5/17 Today I started on the under-hood wiring in the Ranger. The unused harness connectors looked really bad scattered around the engine compartment so I decided to pull all the harnesses and remove all unneeded wiring. First I started with the alternator harness followed by the battery/starter harness.

Next up was the main harness which all of the connectors for the engine harnesses, the headlights/side markers, the connector to the EEC, and the connector that goes through the firewall. I ended up removing a huge pile of wiring. Here are some before, in progress, and after pictures.

I ordered a fuel pump relay kit, and a thermostatically controlled electric fan kit from painless wiring. Their kits are really high quality and the wires even come with their destinations printed down the length of the wire. I had to tap a pipe thread hole in the thermostat housing for fan sensor. Overall it was a very clean install. I ran the wiring for the ignition, tachometer, and electric fan under the radiator and used some split loom to match the factory harness. My goal was to make the entire wiring job look like it was done at the factory.
