For this swap I decided to go with a Ford C4 transmission. It can be build to be very reliable behind a powerful engine. I found a core on eBay for $50 and planned on rebuilding it using new high quality components.

Here is what comes in the rebuild kit. Its every rubber seal and soft part; gaskets, new clutch steels, clutch discs, filters, check balls, screens, modulator, 2nd gear band, and steel rings. I also got a new stronger servo, deep pan, and the advanced adapters transfer case adapter.

These hold the clutches that need to be replaced. They are under a larger retaining ring and that will need to be spiraled out of the bore. There is a piston on the bottom of each assembly that will need to be inspected and the rubber rings replaced. Check out the new band compared to the burned out old one.

This is the governor assembly all apart so the valves can be cleaned and inspected. The next picture shows how everything is arranged inside the transmission.

Next on the list is the valve body. It controls and directs the fluid to act on different parts of the transmission. The first pic is what it looked like when it came out of the transmission. The next is the valve body half completely disassembled with all the springs and valves removed. It is VERY important to be organized and lay everything out onto a rag or paper towel just the way it came out. This way you can clean and inspect each part, then assembly it exactly the way it came out. I also replaced some of the springs behind the valves to give me firmer shifts. This doubles the life of the transmission since the slippage between gears is dramatically reduced. The last pics are the valve body assembled, complete with new filter.

Here is the pump assembly that needs to be taken apart and inspected. You can also see the output shaft compared to the new one form advanced adapters.

You can see where the roller clutch sits in the end of the case. Also, the new servo assembly, and some parts are starting to go back in the case.

Well, here it is all back together ready to take some abuse.
