Hi! Welcome to my obsession, er... Miata page!
It all started with me getting my Cisco CCIE certification. My wife said "Get your CCIE then get the car you want" so I took her up on that!
MyAta was a 1992 Black & Tan with 96k on it. The PO (previous owner) was horrible at taking care of her. She clattered on startup and the top was just about shot.
She's taken some money to fix up, but it's been well worth it. The normal stuff has been done: clutch, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gasket, timing belt, idler and tensioner pulleys. An oil change to change the black sticky goo quieted down the motor quite a bit. The remaining noise was gone after I discovered OEM oil filters had a check valve the aftermarket ones the oil change place used didn't have. I did some of the work on her and the dealership did the rest ;)
The aftermarket parts have been fun. The radio was dead (rain!) so I yanked it and put in an Aiwa stereo (ugh... skips) and Infinity speakers in the doors and headrests. She's been upgraded to PowerStop crossdrilled rotors in the front, KYB AGX adjustable shocks on all four corners, Frenzy 4 point roll bar (yes, Warren did make a roll bar at one time), new shift boot, and a strut tower brace. Next was a new OEM style top with a zip down rear window from Cabrio World. Rounding out the mods was draining the transmission and shift turret oils and replacing them with Mobil 1 75w-90. Now she shifts as smooth as silk!
I just bought a 2003 Splash Green Mica Miata - the pricing from the dealer was toooooooo dang good to pass up. I've named her "Radioactive Loogie" as the paint is very bright green.
Now that I have it, the wife wanted me to sell the 2 92 models but after I changed the transmission oil out in the 92 Black & Tan to Mobil 1, she wants to keep it for herself :D
Well... after about 2 months of having the new '03 I decided to finish a couple of things I wanted to do on this car. First was to fix the sagging under dash pan, second was installing the carbon fiber bezel and EL backlight gauges, and third was installing and wiring up some headrest speakers.
Here are the gauges when lit. I'll take a pic of them after dark sometime and post that. They are MUCH brighter at night than what this pic alludes to. These gauges were $29.95 off of eBay. The hardest part of installing these was finding spots behind the gauges to drill holes for the wires. I scraped off the white paint from the bottom of the needles and painted them red with translucent model paints (red taillight paint!)
Update: MyAta was sold Jan 05... My wife wanted a new Mazda 3. I hope her new owner takes good care of her. My current cars are the 2003 Splash Green Mica on page 2 and the 1990 Spec racer project.
