Here is my 85 El Camino. I found this car by accident. I heard that there was this big Salvation Army Rehab center that sold donated cars in Northern California. $975 later I owned my 1st Elky. The pictures above were taken just hours after I took delivery of the car you see above. My friend Steve and I 1st replaced a vacuum hose with a new one he had laying around his shop and then he smogged it for me. Steve is a smog tech and managed to get it to pass at the limit of HC's allowed! When I bought it they said it had a overheating problem. Although I don't plan on keeping the motor in the car for much longer I have yet to notice a cooling system problem. We then washed it,clayed it and waxed and took the pictures above. The car has about 140k miles on the stock drivetrain. My Elky currently has the fuel injected 4.3 Liter V6 still in place. The motor, tranny & rear end will all be swapped with the drivetrain from my 86 Buick Regal T-type(same drivetrain as the Grand National for those who didn't know). This car will feature a 3.8 Litre Turbo V6 that has been balanced & blueprinted with standard bore TRW pistons, stock cam, stock heads(cleaned up & freshened),TA-49 turbo, stock location intercooler & a half,009 42.5# injectors,Walbro GSS340M hot wired fuel pump(to buy list),Billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator of some sort(to buy list),3" Stainless Steel Terry Houston downpipe and a modified Hooker 2.5" catback exhaust System. This is my project car and when I am done it should be a solid 12 sec car that I can drive anywhere. This all would not be possible with out the help from my good friend Steve.
Here are two more shots of the rear. My car needs a front and rear bumper and there is some minor damage to the left rear. The silver paint is wasted and needs to be repainted.

Here is a before and after shot of my old seats and the the one's I just put in from a 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix. Now I have a power drivers side and I can recline the passenger side. I picked these up at a Pick-N-Pull for $60. Thanks to my girlfriend Rachel for driving 150 miles round trip to pick them up after we were kicked out a day earlier. The weird thing about these seats is that they were pulled from a car that was right next to the black Regal below. I sold it to Pick-N-Pull a couple of weeks earlier and there is probably 1,500 cars at this location! Pretty damn weird eh.

This was to be the original project car. Found at a local tow yard for $450 with current registration and it too also passed smog without incident. This car just needs too much work to be a nice car. I have decided to sell it instead.

The donor car was at one time a really nice 86 Buick Regal T-type with matching numbers. More pictures of this car can be seen on page 3. The car was stolen and later recovered totaled. I bought it back from my insurance and decided not to fix it due to the extensive body damage to the rear & picked up 1st a 86 V8 Regal Limited. That car turned into a roach and then I found this 85 El Camino. Here's what's currently left of the 86 T-type now.

Here are a couple of shots with the drivetrain still in the donor car.

Here are a couple of shots of the engine & tranny removal from my donor car.

Today on Friday the 13th 2004 I removed the wiring harness from the donor car. I also removed some interior trim and carpet. Here are a couple of shots.

With the help of my buddy Steve we also got the dash removed too. Here are two more shots. Again on Friday the 13th 2004

Finally the Engine is in! There's still lots of work to be done but boy it should does start looking like a reality when I look at the engine in the engine bay :o)

Today the trans went in. I am very happy as this will give me some much needed motivation :o) Big thanks to Steve on this one. I just kind of helped out.
Update - 3/8/09 I hear it run for the first time since the start of this project!!! We also take it for it's mayden voyage around the block. Big thanks to Steve for all of his help over the years!
