Let's take a look on my installs...
This is my car... 15" inches polish mags on standard size tires... no mechanical modifications are planed at the moment.
The head unit of my two systems have always been the Alpine CDA-7949 wired with fiber optic to a time/phase aligment Alpine processor, the PXA-H600. Under the radio, you can see a amateur radio transceiver and installed in the ashtray slot is the remote controller for the PXA-H600.
This was my first install. Behind the rear seat (view from front seat)one Phonix Gold ZX-450 bridged (2 X 250 watts rms) for subs 2 X Oz Audio OZ-300H installed free air and one Phoenix Gold ZX-250 (2 X 75 watts rms) for front speakers AVI Express MXD. I also modified (for 12 volts operation) a 2 X 30 band Alesis equalizer for fine tuning.
The second install is a setup with two McIntosh amplifier fitted in the rear seat. One MC-431M (2 X 200 watts rms) for subs 2 X AVI SL-250 installed with aperiodic membranes and one MC-421M (2 X 100 watts rms) for front speakers 2 X AVI Express MXD. Overall curve is 34/40 (IASCA scrore chart) WITHOUT 30 band equaliser. You can also see the printout of the score made on january 28, 2000 !
This is the IASCA score sheet from the overall sound curve. Very tight and dynamic bass. Mid range and hi are set a little lower fot a smoother sound.
I wanted to make a clean and simple install. When the rear seat is up, you can't tell that there is a system in the car. So when the trunk is open, it's free from any amplifier that can be seen by unwanted guest !
I also wanted to have a small box (keeping place for my spare tire and groceries !). Actually, the box is 6" X 24" X 12". The USD Aperiodic membrane allow me to do a small box like that. Like they say "the smaller it is, the better it will be !" And it's working ! You can also see the Alpine PXA-H600 receiver on the right side of the photo. Normally, a panel cover with holes and some speaker grill cloth is hiding the box setup so there is nothing to see in the trunk when it's open.
Those are the famous AVI Epress MXD set. They are installed in the same place as the original honda speakers were. The original grill had been remove for the picture. I'm using those speaker since 7 years and I can assure you that nothing will make me change them, at the moment... Those monster (5" wide ventilated magnet on the mid range !) can deliver soft and clean sound but if you want hi output from those, they can easely handle up to 120 watts RMS set on proper crossover hipass frequency (around 120 hz@24 dB/octave).
Finally, power is provided by an Interstate AGM-800DT battery (Optima red top) on stock alternator. Current draw peaks around 57 amps at full volume. I use Phoenix Gold cables and accessories like 1/0 power cable, 100 amp wafer fuse with holder, speaker cable and battery post. I'm looking also to install a 1 farad.
My goal with this system was to try some new technology for me like apmats and time aligment and if you can try any processor or head unit that have time correction, you won't beleive the difference it make ! You won't be able to go without it !
Well, that's it ! Hope you enjoyed my two systems installations !
