You have seen the begining of the MIDDLE section, and now its time for a sneak preview of the HATCH area.
I made these trim rings out of 3/4 in. MDF. Keep reading and you'll see what they are used for.
i had to make a bracket for the trim rings for them to stand up right on thier own.
You may have some kind of idea what its going to be used for. There will be one of these on each side of the hatch. It was a pain in the ass trying to get them at the same angle, and spaced out exactly the same!
I secured the bracket to the car very well using 2x4's, and metal brackets. After it was secired to my standards, i streched fleece, stapled it down on the trim rings, and applied fiberglass resin to it. I cut out the middle of the trim ring before the resin hardened, and this is what it looks like.
I did the above procedure to both sides of the hatch, and after they were both completly hardend, i removed them from the car. **Please note the fiberglass tub under the spare.....more on this on the next page!
Here are both panels in the hatch, and my full size(19") spare. There is still a ton of work to do back here, but this gives you an idea of what it will look like.
