Neons in depth
Install locations, controller, mounting, etc

The control unit. Instead of using the crappy built in microphone (which catches people talking, engine noise, etc) I cut the microphone out of the circuit and instead sodered on an RCA cord with a variable resister built into it. Then I take it to one of the preouts off the head unit. The resister is on there because the 2 or 4 volts coming out of the head unit is WAY too powerful of a signal compared to the signal the microphone used to be putting out.
So I set the variable resister at a good level, then use the built in resister to the controller to edit it depending on the current music volume. Works great.

The mounting position of the 2 under dash neons. As you can see, the right end of each is ziptied to a bundle of wires, while the left end is ziptied to a sticky wire tie wall mount which is then stuck to the various flat boxes found there. Pictures below.
