UPDATE 2007: Sold this car a while back to a New York AMCer who's really doing it up. Sad to let it go, but it has a good new owner.

==================================================

Here are a few pics of my 1982 AMC Eagle SX/4 Sport, and a little info about it. To see much more, visit my website at JavelinAMX.com. And visit EagleWeb, too! There you'll read the June 1998 Car & Driver article where they said "The AMC Eagle was ahead of it's time. Precisely 19 years ahead, it seems. The Eagle line of four-wheel-drive coupes, sedans, and wagons, which we praised for their peerless
blend of on- and off-road ride and handling, preceded the sport-ute boom by roughly a decade... we're put off by Subaru's unjust claim that the Legacy SUS is 'the world's first sport-utility sedan.'
" 'nuff said!

jwramc's 1982 AMC Eagle Franklin, NJ - 1 As the pics show, she's Black-on-Black with 'Sport'-package blackout trim. It was originally a 5-speed, but a prior owner converted it to automatic (I'm hoping to convert her back). The AMC/Jeep 115HP 4.2L inline six engine purrs like a kitten and the 2WD/4WD SelecTrac system works great. I have no plans to lift it- I prefer that it handles great instead of looking huge. (Next to it in this photo is an '81 AMC Spirit DL I recently sold to a pal. This photo is newer than the one below.) This SX/4 has a rare factory-installed sunroof, plus air conditioning, rear defogger, remote hatch release, dual remote sport mirrors,...
jwramc's 1982 AMC Eagle Franklin, NJ - 2 ...Rally gauge package, tilt wheel, skid plate package, factory-applied Ziebart rust-proofing and more. I've added a later-model, factory Digital AM/FM/Cassette deck as well as steel Jeep sport wheels with custom-made 'Eagle' center cap decals. It also wears a push bar that I will likely replace with another that adds brush guards around the headlamps, plus a pair of large off-road lamps where the cheapy ones (shown here) were. You may notice the rear of the car is a bit lower than it should be. The rear spings tend to sag, and someone installed air shocks in this car to help that and it's towing ability (it has a Class I hitch). One shock now leaks, so I let all the air out until I can replace them and/or the springs.

jwramc's 1982 AMC Eagle Franklin, NJ - 3 Here's how she looked the day I towed it home for a mere $400. A steal, I think! Note the missing bumper end caps, ugly wheel covers, wrong door mirror (chrome!?) and so on. (That's my '89 Cherokee Limited next to her)[Sidenote: Did you know Eagles are not legally considered 'passenger cars'? They are 'Multi-Purpose Vehicles' and as such, are exempt from bumper standards (note how they are different from their 2WD sisters, Concord and Spirit) and other 'car' requirements! These were treated like Pickups and SUVs of the era by the government! True!

jwramc's 1982 AMC Eagle Franklin, NJ - 4 This shot shows the '81 Spirit DL again, the Black '82 SX/4 and a silver '82 SX/4 that I got for parts for about $200. That car was a blessing! I got tons of better pieces for my car from it, put my lesser parts onto it, then resold it for $500!! YOWSA! It had an 'Iron Duke' 4-cylinder and a 5-speed and ran flawlessly...but the frame and floorpan was rotted horribly...totally un-roadworthy. The guy I sold it to parted it out even more and, believe it or not, resold it again!!

jwramc's 1982 AMC Eagle Franklin, NJ - 5 This is a quick collage of several of my past and present toys. The silver '82 Eagle sedan was my first Eagle. The '86 DL wagon was the last Eagle I had before I got the black car above. The red '79 Spirit AMX is a project car and the blue '79 Spirit DL is a parts car for the Spirit AMX. The last is my '74 Javelin AMX project which has a 401cid 4v V8. Many more pics and info are available at http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/jwr/myamcs1.htm
