5 Speed Swap

Q:Can I put a 5 speed in my gxe?

A:Yes you can.

Q:What will I need to do it and can I do it myself

A: Well that all depends on witch tranny you get. You could get a 89-91 Se 5 speed tranny, Or you could get the Vlsd from a 92-94 SE Witch came with the limited Slip axles But for that swap you will need more parts. As far as doing it your self It just depends on if you have tools and if you know little about cars. Not that hard

Q:So what do I need for both.

A: OK if your goning to do the vlsd swap you will need to get the tranny, axles, hubs, shifter,Clutch pedal, brake pedal, and linkage. The vlsd has bigger CV axles than the gxe auto or the 89-91SE auto Thats why you have to have the hubs for that swap. Also do not forget the CV axel bracket that bolts to the back of the block on passenger axel. You will need that.Ok to swap the 89-91SE speed all you need to get is the tranny, shifter, clutch pedal, brake pedal, and linkage.

Q:OK so what do I do.

A:Go and get some type of factory service manual, and read both sections on the manual and auto tranny first, before starting this project,as they will help you learn more about on how to get the tranny out and back in.

OK I started with this part as it would not put the car down for more than a couple of hours.(So if you do not have a lot of time you can do it in two parts.)OK Well by now you have all your parts out of your donor car.So you want to mount the clutch pedal and brake pedal. Well you got to get you old one out.(You will want to remove the seat for this part there a 4 14mm bolts that hold it in and in you have power disconnect the plugs)OK its held in by 4 12mm bolts that connects to the master cylinder. And one 12mm bolt that connects to the dash bracket. You will need to remove these and remove the connectors at the brake pedal. OK the master cylinder arm as a Pin that connects to the brake pedal their is plastic piece on the end of it and a carter key. To remove the plastic piece I use a pair of needle nose pliers to get it off and the carter key.

I love what you've done with this car. The turbo upgrade is one of the few that I've seen done. You also intercooled it and did it using the exhaust manifold from 300 ZX car, which was innovative, as the VG motor in that car is in RWD configuration. Keep up the good work. How did you get oil to cool the turbo, by tapping into your oil pan? Check out my page if you can. Also, would you be interested in selling instructions of how to install turbo, and all steps required: ECU programming, exhaust plumbing, perhaps a trace of your layout.

Nice Maxima,I love what you've done with it and yeah I think you should add a bodykit, with the kit you might not have to lower it, Oh yeah your max is one of the best ive seen. Good luck with the rest of your modifications.
