Check out the other pages to see the build....

Thanks for checking out my project, (NO, its not for sale and NO, it will never be an eleanor clone!)I created this page to show the car I have dreamed about my whole life. This car has been in my family as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of sitting in the driver seat as a child and shifting the huge Hurst T handle shifter. My car may upset some purists who think all classics should be restored to original, but so what, its my car and I'm building it the way I want, and the way I think they would have built it back in '68 had the parts been available.

Here is a concept drawing of what I hope the car will some day look like. The drawing was done by carsbychris@adelphia.net

While this car has been in my family since the early 1970's, this is the first photo I have of the car. Here my dads is unloading it in Florida, probably around 1982 or 1983 after the garage was built and he brought it down from Connecticut. Little did this poor car know that the garage would be its home for the next 20 years...

Fast68Back's 1968 Ford Mustang

This did not look like the same car or condition I remember it being when I had last seen it back in 1987, but its still a 1968 53 thousand original mileage Mustang Fastback!

My dad was using the trunk for storage, thats what they are for, right? It took 3 pretty large trash bags to empty all this out, I kept the stuff that may be useful later. My dad will kill me for saying this, but there were two newspapers on the passenger seat, one was from the day after JFK was shot and the other the day after the space shuttle challenger exploded on takeoff in '87.

This picture is right after I first brought the car to Texas back in Oct '02, after an 18 hour trailer ride from Florida, yes those are no snow tires on the back. The car spent its whole life split between New England and Florida and has no rust, thank god for undercoating and garages big enough to hold project cars!

This was shortly after I got back to TX, I was so mad at myself for not taking any pictures of the car on the trailer...I think I was so excited it slipped my mind. I moved in Nov of 2003 and had the car trailered to my new house, and again forgot to get any pictures

Another shot, same day The body is all original except for the reproduction decklid and right rear quarter extension (NOS), those two pieces were robbed from this car back in the 80's when my first car, also a '68 FB was rearended and the driver had no insurance and my folks footed the bill for the repair, thanks mom and dad!

yup, its a fastback!

I am not sure why but I think this is a cool picture. I took off the fenders to make it easier to work on the front suspension and brakes.

heres a shot of my old neighbor, Bob, pressure washing the engine bay, I need to get one of those pressure washers!

When I trailered the car back to TX, I had an extra drivers side window in a box. All the packing peanuts came out of the box, I had to pull the interior side panel off to get them all out.

When I replaced the interior carpet I was hoping to find an old build sheet or something, no luck, I did however find this 30+ year old Dentyne gum wrapper! About a year and a half later i found the original build sheet taped to the wiring harness behind the instrument cluster!

Here is the interior while I was cleaning off the dirt, dust and a little mold, the left is before and the right side is after. I installed a new carpet kit as it looked like the heater core leaked on the carpet. The interior will basically remain stock with minor enhancements, I would like to add a '67 brushed aluminum dash with Autometer gauges and would love to find a 4 speed console I can afford! Maybe eventually I will upgrade the seats, the originals are in awesome shape for 35 years old, maybe find some nice leather buckets from a new generation Bullitt Mustang

This shot was after I cleaned the seats

The stock radio that came out of the car, I haven't taken a picture of the new one yet, but its a Kenwood deck.

Incredible car. The 68 fastback is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. I love that rear view.
