The ascMcLaren was introduced in 1984 with the Mercury Capri. The package was converted to the Mustang in 1987. There were 1806 produced between '87 and '90. The American Sunroof Company, ASC, performed all the style enhancements. McLaren signed on with original intentions to make performance upgrades, but the package was eventually ended before they ever were able to due to the Saleen and Cobra being the primary and more popular packages. This is car number 46 of 247 made in 1989. It was built off the GT convertible platform, with 5.0 V8 and Cobra style bumpers and side skirts. The ascMcLaren package replaces the convertible top with a Mercedes SL top. The top on this car is NOT the original. It was originally a black top that was replaced with the tan by my grandfather when he owned it. The tan was not a color option for the Sterling Silver Mustangs, although I dont think it looks half bad. The stock windshield was chopped and replaced with a shorter, lower slant windshield and the backseat was replaced with storage compartments to accomodate for the SL top and fold away tonneau cover. The only place Ford badging can be found is on the engine and stock radio. The interior is rewrapped in ascMcLaren leather, including the seats, steering wheel, and door panels. The wheels are 15x7 ascMcLaren five spoke, and the tail lights have tinted covers also. The car has been family owned since new, purchased by my grandfather in 89 and recently sold to my dad. I hope to own it whenever possible. More info can be found at www.ascMcLaren.com
