The Car
The summer of 2004, I sold my NX2000 and proceeded to search for another car. I was torn between three different cars: the 300zx Twin Turbo, the 3000gt VR-4, and the Firebird Trans Am.
After multiple attempts to purchase 300z's and 3000gt's over ebay, I was becoming discouraged as everything moved outside of my price range. Then, I found this Trans Am locally. I ended up purchasing it for $6500 with 96k. And so my entire future in American V8 has now begun.
The Future
New plan...still get the Ram-Air conversion, allowing me to have my already great exhaust flow coupled with an equally great air intake. Then, I'm gonna start preparing my car for the goal I have of around 600hp. This involves getting a custom Ford 9" rear-end and a high performance aluminum driveshaft. Then, I need some better rubber, so I'll stick some Nitto DR's on a set of new aluminum TTII's. And while I'm at it, Front and Rear Sets of Wilwood brake kits for added bling. Then after more time and money can be accumulated, I'll start building the 396. Besides this, see my upgrades page for the smaller things I plan to do.

AC is out and the GM ac delete pulley is in. Car runs like a champ yet again. Oh, and I eneded up cutting the top off of the bolt that was holding the canister brace on, so that's out now. I love the room this all has freed up.

In the process of AC removal as we speak. Never liked using AC and the benefit of having a bunch more room in the engine bay is definitely worth it. I'm waiting right now for the pulley to come into GM so I can put that on, then I'll be driving her again. I've also gotta get that damn canister brace off too, I ahte the fact that the bolt is stripped and it could possibly be staying in there for awhile. I can' stand things in the engine bay that have no purpose.

I bought an MSD Blaster Coil for the beast using my last store credit at MAS. While I was installing it, I polished up the aluminum fins and it looks a little better down there now. Also, I built a taylor wire for the coil too, to make it match the others. Looks good.

As a result of Shoreviews finest, I now have removed my tint. I hate this. But I'm sure I've made everyone's lives safer now. Thank you Officer!

Success! The coolant is done and I took it for a good drive... no hesitation at all! Not even that high RPM miss. I took a ramp onto the highway and just gunned her from first, second, third... shifting at around 5000... no miss, just pure power. Then slammed the brake so i didn't hit the car I was merging towards... so brakes work good too :) . Meanwhile, check out the tons of extra space I gained by taking the AIR out when I did my exhaust.

Replaced Opti, what a PITA! Getting that balancer off is loads of fun... I recommend pulling off the entire hub, that's what I ended up doing. Anyways, now I'm bleeding all of the air out of my coolant system and then I'll take her for a spin. I sure hope I didn't do all this work and spend this money in vain. Also, crunch time is coming for the written warning I get a few weeks back. I'm gonna have to have my tint taken off, and I need this car running so the cops can 'verify' that my car was 'fixed'... *mumbles profanities about cops and them saving our community from the dangerous tint criminals with blue lights*

Well, lets see. I ran new Taylor Blue wires above my valvecovers, so that they wouldn't be affected by headers. They look real good but unforunately this didn't solve my problem. So, I bought new spark plugs, Bosch-4's... still have the problem, and it's getting worse. Oh and I finally threw a code (P0372, Timing Reference High Resolution Signal A Too Few Pulses). So sounds like it is referring to my opti... gonna have to order up a new one, $230 on ebay. Oh, as a side note, I took out my traction control box, engine looks a little better. I had to order a special throttle cable from gm... also need to get some kind of hook up for my cruise control too. And it appears that when I removed the TCS, my abs turned off too. Oh well, guess I'll have to send in my pcm again sometime.

The car is misfiring pretty bad. I took a long drive last night and she really stumbled bad at one point. So, it's lookin like I'm probably getting some arcing going on. I couldn't see any light at night in there, but it's gotta be electrical. Also, theose turn signals are still holding up, so it must've been the quality of light bulbs, cause one the housings still isn't sealing good. Anyways, I got a written warning about those blues, so I'm gonna have to replace them along with the turnsignals anyways...
-05/27/05
Well, I'm dealing with a continuing problem regarding my turn signals. They keep consistently burning out. I thought it was because of a lack of seal on the plug, so I bought an extra plug and put it's seal on but to no avail. It could be the cheap bulbs, which would suck. I've now bought some 'last long' regular halogens (instead of the blues) to see if it is actually the bulbs. But if these burn out, then I'm suspecting the crispy sockets to be the issue. We will see.

Fixed the code. Apparently I had my #5 spark plug wire touching a header pipe, and we suspect thus grounding it out. So we turned the plug wire so it wouldn't touch and now, no more code. This car has now awoken!

Exhaust install is finished! After a lot of nights with me stuck in my engine bay and under my car, It is finished. Now, she's throwing an 0300 code which is random misfire. I've gotta look into that now, but everything is in! Also, driving this car is foreign to me now, which is really odd. It's like the powerband has moved on me and I'm trying to find it.. this could be partly because I may be only running on 7 cylinders (I suspect that wahtever is throwing the code, is also making me lose a cylinder), but we'll see.

Ordered a LT4 knock module today, should get it within a week. Also, finally got that damned bolt off of the drivers side head. The story behind that is when I was pulling off the exhaust manifold a couple of months ago, a bolt broke on me. I tried turning it out with pliers, using bolt-pullers, welding and turning, spraying... all gave no result. Finally, today my father figured he'd try welding a bolt onto the broken end and turning it out. That worked as he was able to gradually ease it out. Finally.

Completed TB bypass today. I now have vacuum caps on the TB nipples that were open. It wasn't too hard of a job. Also, I capped that remaining EGR nipple. So all caps are done.
-04/11/05
Got the PCM back today. It is raining outside, so I'm gonna have to wait untill I put it back in. Also, I'm waiting to buy an LT4 knock module.
-04/08/05
Old catback is off and the new GMMG is on. I'm not gonna put the tips or the extended pipe on untill I get the y-pipe. But other then that the new hangers are on and muffler system is on. You can see the difference between the stock and the chambered... It's pretty crazy.

-04/05/05
Took off the EGR today. It was really easy, I was surprised. The hardest part was getting at that black vacuum house to take it off of the Intake manifold. Those block off pieces are really nice. I got them from curlyws6 on LS1Tech. Great stuff, Stephen! Now I just need to buy a cap for the vacuum nipple I left open on the intake manifold.

I just sent in my PCM today to Brian @ pcmforless.com . He's been a pretty cool guy to work with so far and so I sent it in to get a major overhaul. It should arrive in Tennessee next thursday, then it'll probably take them a day or two to work on it and then another week or so to ship back. So, I'm hoping to get it back in two weeks.

I installed Clear Turn Signals today. I really couldn't stand the look of the orange signals so I ordereed clears off of ebay. I finally installed them and I've gotta say, they look pretty good. I also bought blue bulbs for the turns / always ons. It looks really nice. I noticed that the bulb housings were pretty crispy though. They might end up being a problem for me in the future.
