Now that I modded the car and tuned it up, I was really itchin' to see what kind of power this thing was making. I had it dyno tested and it put down some pretty impressive numbers: 273HP@4800 rpm, 417 lbs/ft@2950 rpm, with 17psi boost, 20 timing (street chip) and 93 octane gas. Figure in aboput 15-18% for drivetrain losses, and its close to 325HP and 500lbs/ft of torque! I was shocked and very satisfied that I could get that much power with a stock turbo and intercooler!
As much fun as it is to see and hear the car on the dyno, and to get the information it provides, the real proof is at the track. Off to Lebanon Valley Dragway!
I've run a best of 12.74 @ 106mph, with a 1.78 60' time, with SMC alky injection. This was my first 12-second run ever, and holy crap is it a blast. Here's some pics of the GN with my friend Ant's '99 Trans Am, which admitedly is faster than the GN....he's run severely traction-limited 12.30's at 115-116mph. If he could hook it up, it'd hit the 11's, but the weak-ass 7.625" 10-bolt just won't support that power. Why GM put these crappy rear ends that were originally designed for the Vega and Monza in F-bodies is beyond me.
Here's some pics the cars in the lanes:
