Not many people know that a Starsky and Hutch Ford Torino actually makes a guest appearance in The Dukes of Hazzard pilot episode. The Dukes drove a Dodge Charger named the General Lee. Torinos and Chargers actually have quite a bit in common. Both cars fought in the NASCAR aero-wars of the late 60's and early 70's, both could be had with hemi (Ford called them crescent) head motors 426 cubic inches or larger, and both cars have become cultural icons.

So, it was just natural for me to love the General Lee! Believe it or not, they actually auctioned off TWO General Lees. This “General Lee” was the #1 stand-by car and used for promotion and exhibition with John Schneider, Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) and George Barris. It can also be seen in the video and DVD by Kid Rock.
One of the most famous cars in television history, “The General Lee” tore across prime time for seven years. “The General Lee” was, in fact, one of the main stars of the series, with its trademark long jumps and close and convoluted escapes from the law.

A 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, 440 cu, automatic transmission, hemi orange with roll bar and push bar, side decals, Vector racing wheels.
This car is the #2 exhibition only, used as a stand-by car and for promotoin of the television show, The Dukes of Hazzard. This "General Lee" was built by Barris and then exhibited at the Klassix Car Museum in Daytona Beach, Florida.

In the t.v. show, the doors on the Charger were supposed to be welded shut, which gave Bo and Luke Duke the excuse to jump in and out of the car"s windows all the time. In reality, the doors opened normally. Strike that, in reality both had doors that didn't align or close properly.

Another classic escapes from my garage. One of the Chargers went for $34,000. This car actually had a horn that played Dixie.

What's that parked next to the striped Torino?

It's the GTO from Vin Diesel's XXX!

The car even had a prop mini-gun in the back seat! The GTO went for $52,000! I'd rather have one of the Chargers, myself.
