So you're probably wondering, "what the hell does SWONKY mean?" Well there's a really cool story about it that means alot to me. Way back 6 years ago, I lived with my grandparents in the good 'ol down home Albia, Iowa (south east Iowa) for my senior year of high school. I parked my car in the drive everyday, and for lunch and dinner every time my grandpa looked out the window from the kitchen he always said "that's a swonky lookin car you got there boy!" I mean EVERY time!
If you're not familiar with the term "swonky", it's because it doesn't exist. What my grandpa was referring to was "swanky", which means nice or fancy. He just pronounced it as swonky for some reason. Alot of older people use the term, you'll also find it on such shows like The Andy Griffith show. Wow, nice name drop on the Andy show! Seriously, its a funny show, Barney Fife, he's a crazy cat.
So then a year after I graduated high school, my grandpa passed away and in memory I put "SWONKY" as my license plate. I was really close with both my grandparents, I even went as far and got a tattoo of their name on my arm.
I then moved to the Des Moines area and got big into the street racing scene. Everyone I met in Des Moines assumed it was my last name and then stuck as a nick name. I thought it was a little weird at first, but it grew on me and I really like it because of where it came from. Have to know where you came from to know where you're going....
