Page One
Hi! You've found my page for my 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
This car was purchased new by my father. I've been driving it ever since I was in high school (about 1996). Now it's mine and I've been trying to do some fix up work as well as outfiting it with a few performance parts. When she was new she could really go fast, as well as just being insanely comfortable! Driving your couch at 100mph is pretty sweet! However while I was in college my parents didn't drive it too much and kind of let some things go. That and a couple of idiot mechanics caused some problems. Today most of that has been fixed by the things I've doccumented below, but there's still work to be done!
My list of to do items:
1. Fix spark knock - replaced toat ecm with good one. May still need a new spark control module. Other suggestions?
2. Fix warpped pulleys - Some moron put a belt that was too small on this while I wasn't there and ruined the smog pump and warpped the pulley and harmonic ballancer. What a pain! I fixed the smog pump but now I've got all this vibration! Get's better once it warms up.
3. Pimp out - install lound muffler, new air intake manifold, mess with tbi etc. One day it'll need a new paint job.
Here she is!

Another Engine Pic. For this one I had to stand on the bumper!

Pulleys. The First is on the ac compressor and functions properly. The second is on the smog pump and isn't quite right. It shimmies a little because some moron mechanic put a belt that was four inches too small on. (This was when the car was owned by my parents.) The Farthest one is the harmonic ballancer, it too vibrates. I've got to fix this since the vibration is driving me insane.

The alternator. I replaced this about a month ago with one from Advance Auto. The other one was toasted by the same belt problem that warpped the pulleys. This one has a lifetime warrenty so hopefully, it will be the last one installed on the car.

I replaced the air filter on 2/2/04. This is the old one. Nasty! Shouldn't this have been changed when my parents took it in to get serviced?! Jeez.

Look at that crap. I mean what is that? Oil? Sheesh.
A number of years ago (read mid 90's) the car developed a leak in the trunk. There was always water in the trunk. Eventually this ruined the bose amp located in the trunk which caused the radio to crackel and generally suck. I rewired it replacing the amp with an in-deck Sony model in 1998.

A local body shop traced the leak to cracks in the roof metal above here. They sealed it up with some metal and painted over it. Haven't had a problem since!
On Wendsday 4 Feb 2004 I replaced the ECM. Here is the origional. The computer didn't work anymore and the vehicle had defaulted to the limp-in mode. Now its wicked. It's got all the power back that it had when I drove it in high school! It corrected a lot of the spark knock the vehicle had too. I think the spark control module may be bad too, or something. It still has some clicking.
