My H/C/I project:
UPDATE 06/19/05: I ordered some Trickflow Twisted Wedge dual spring heads today off eBay. They're brand new and I got a good deal on them. They dual spring setup is capable of handling up to .600" of lift!
UPDATE 06/19/05: I also ordered a Trickflow Stage 1 cam from a guy on Stangnet. It has a 275/279 duration, with .499" intake lift and .510" exhaust lift (1.6 rockers). $105 shipped to my door!
UPDATE 06/19/05: I won some Trickflow 1.6/1.7 split ratio roller rocker arms on eBay. I'm going to put the 1.7's on the intake side, and that will bump up the intake lift to .530". I got the rockers for $138! The guy also sold me some Trickflow 6.750" hardened pushrods (the ones I need for my heads) for $50.
UPDATE 06/19/05: I placed an order through Summit for all my miscellaneous parts I need for my head and cam swap. I got my headbolts, gasket kit, lubricants, NOS lines (for my oil pressure sending units, I need to relocate them), and thermactor plugs to plug the back of the heads for the smog pump delete.
UPDATE 06/20/05: I went up to 50resto today to pick up some more parts. I got some MAC 1 5/8" shorty headers, and some FRPP hydraulic roller lifters. I kind of wanted to swap to long tubes, but I would have had to spend $360 just to do the swap. Sticking with shorty's, I only paid $140.
UPDATE 06/21/05: I went to O'Reilly's to pick up my timing cover gasket kit. There's a lot of freaking gaskets in there!
UPDATE 06/22/05: I just ordered a BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I am gonna need a bigger fuel pump and injectors to support my fuel consumption. I am looking at some injectors on eBay, but I won't be able to get my MAF recalibrated right now, so I won't be able to use them right away. So I went ahead and ordered the AFPR so I can at least bump up my fuel pressure for the time being to compensate.
UPDATE 06/23/05: I needed to get a replacement switch for my manual fan switch since one of mine broke, so while I was at the store I picked up some tools I'm gonna need for the heads/cam swap. I got a scraper (for scraping all the old gasket material off), a feeler gauge, and a distributor clamp socket. I still need to get a dial indicator to measure PTV clearance, a vacuum gauge, and some fuel line disconnect tools.
UPDATE 06/23/05: I bought some FRPP 30lb injectors from eBay. Less than 3000 miles, and I got them for $137. Now I just need to worry about somehow getting my MAF recaled for them, and then a fuel pump.
UPDATE 06/23/05: Found out today that I'm gonna need taller valve covers to clear the 1.7 rockers I'm putting on my intake valves. A friend on stangnet gave me a link to some nice chrome steel ones for $21 brand new. I went ahead and ordered those too.
UPDATE 06/27/05: I ordered a fuel-rail mount fuep pressure gauge from 50resto today. I need one to go with my AFPR so I can see what I'm setting my fuel pressure to.
UPDATE 07/04/05: I decided the other day to go ahead and replace my timing chain and gear set while I have the motor apart. I ordered a FRPP steel double-roller kit from Summit. I went ahead and got 2nd day air since I'll need it by Friday.
UPDATE 07/11/05: She runs!! After 36 hours of work, she fired up Sunday night. She wouldn't idle very well with my MAF being out of calibration though, so I bought a new 76mm C&L today. Hooked it up, and she idles pretty good now, just a little low. This cam doesn't like 650, so I'm gonna bump it up to 900 and see how she likes that. I accidentally bent my power steering pump pulley in the swap, and so I'm without that right now, so I'm not driving it (WAY to hard), but I got a new one coming in tomorrow so I should be set tomorrow afternoon. Then I just gotta relash the rockers sometime next week (I got 1 ticking) and change the oil sometime and I should be DONE!! This cam is sick, the idle is insane, it sounds like a racecar. People will be looking around at redlights to see where all the noise is coming from. Not to mention how unbelievably LOUD it is now!
UPDATE 08/01/05: Well she runs again. I had been trying to track down some gremlins, like why she was lacking power and such, and it ended up being a blown head gasket. I tore it apart yesterday and redid all the gaskets and seals, and GOD does she run better! I still need to adjust fuel pressure and idle, but other than that I think she is actually finished now.
