Hawaii Raceway Park BMW Car Club 'Spring Fling'High Performance Driving School - May 8, 2004Instructors ride with you as they teach you high speed manuevering through the 1.3 mile long Hawaii Raceway Road Course. As part of the Intermediate/ Advanced run groups, we got approximately 80 miles of track time. Braking, shifting, and acceleration points, shuffle steering, apexs, smoothness and consistentcy were all some of the main things I learned. Also learned to trust my truck to stop me from my top speed on the straight of 87mph down to around 35mph for the hairpin at the end of the straight, as my brake dust blackened front rims provided proof.Although I couldn't keep up with the supercharged Mini's and high-horsepower BMW's through the straights, by driving a good line through the turns, I could quickly close the gap and gain on the other drivers. I definitely made them earn their passing rights!!*Favorite Quote from my instructor, Gerard, as we are pedal to the metal in the front straight, with cars overtaking from behind:"Don't slow down, make them earn it!!"
