Since I'm never satisfied or at least I get bored and want to make things different, I often try to find simple cheap mods that I can do that will re-kindle that "new" sparkle that makes material things more nice to have again.
I'm a firm believer in cheap mods, as long as it's decent and easy. One thing I like to play with is mold trim that is usually used for doors. Now many people used to go overboard with this stuff...believe me, I have hehe, but it can have it's upside. I always wanted a billet style grill on my car and the only top one they have available is over $100 bucks, which is way too much for some metal. Recently I saw a Z with a bottom billet grill and thought it looked nice. After staring at my car longer then I should have (like usual hehe), I figured out how to create the look.
I headed over to autozone and picked up some $2 chrome trim for the project. Now you gotta look at the packages carefully, there are 2 kinds (as you can see I have put the 2 different ones in the picture). One kind wraps around edges of thin door areas, the other kind has double-sided tape and just sticks to the outside and a little lip around the edge. Originally I was gonna use the wrap around for the inside, vertical plastic edges, but changed my mind. For the horizontal we need the latter as the edges are too thick to use the wrap around kind. Here's all you need:

The strips are too short to reach all the way across so I had to use 2 per line and just connect them in the middle. I cut the edges at an angle to give it a little more of an elegant look to it. Note: if you have to use 2 shorter strips, make sure you use the non-cut edges together, as they will be pefectly straight since they are factory cut. Unless you have some kind of lazer slicer, your scissors won't cut that straight of an edge to put too strips next to each other as smooth hehe. Here is a before picture...

Yes, feel the chrome, the bling in your eyes! Look at me, I'm shiny! Lol...I've had it on for about a month now and it has held on through the desert weather and rain without a problem. Just make sure you clean the surface really well before you stick them on and you should be just fine. I use dishwasher soap and water, followed by alcohol pads. And make sure it's completely dry. Anyways, here are the after pics, it turned out pretty good and it cost me about 10 bucks.

More mods to come as I slowly update the life of the Black Dragon!
