The first time that I took my car to the drag strip, I ran a 15.96 at 86 mph. I didn't know how to launch the car and I let off the gas to soon before the end of the track. The only mods I had were exhaust and air foil. With practice, I managed to lower my ET to a 15.73 at 87 mph.
With a homemade cold air intake, I managed to lower my ET to a 15.62 at 87 mph. Switching to a 3.5" Third Gen Resource Cold Air Intake, I managed to run a 15.52 at 88 mph. By far, cold air induction is the best mod I have done to date. The factory air intake is very restrictive because of the rectangular shape of the air box (and the bends in it) and air is only being sucked in through a small opening in the air canister.
One problem I have been having is when my car shifts from second to third, the rpms drop from 3500 down to 3200 rpm and then slowly build up before the power kicks in again. My speed drops from 80 mph to 77 mph. I am probably losing a tenth or two at the track because of this. The torque convertor locks up at that is what is killing my power. I am hoping that a custom burned chip will alleviate this problem.
I will hopefully be doing a few more mods this spring. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet because I keep changing my mind on how much to spend on upgrades. I am hoping to get my car down to a low 15 or even break into the 14s.
Time slips to follow.
