Even "Morty Bird" knows that the most important part of a car is it's "Brake System"...because... it really dosen't matter how fast you can go...if you can't stop when you get there.

This is my new 1" Corvette Master Cylinder. It bolted right on to the 79 Chevette Power Brake Booster that I took off of a 79 Chevette 2dr at our local "Pull-A-Part" along with a few other odds and ends that I needed. Originally I was going to go with manual brakes, but just bolting a Corvette Master Cylinder on wouldn't work without some kind of adapter because of the differences in the bolt patterns between the stock Chevette Manual Master Cylinder and the Corvette Master Cylinder. After studying my Chevette Factory Assembly Notebook, I discovered that the Chevette Power Brake Master Cylinder has the same bolt pattern as the Corvette Master Cylinder. This made Power Brakes a given.

If you pick up a "Paper Copy" of Street Rodder Magazine and check out the adds for Brake Parts, you'll find that this same combination of...Chevette 7" Power Booster and 1" Corvette Master Cylinder...is used on quite afew Street Rods. Click here for info about BRAKES FOR YOUR HOT ROD

I got this Power Booster mainly for the stock bracket that bolts it to the firewall and the support rod. Just tobe on the safe side I plan on replacing the Booster with a new one. My engine compartment is going to get Media Blasted and then painted in the proper GM Black before I start plumbing the new brake system

These are both factory stock Chevette Master Clinders. The left one is for Manual Brakes and the right one is for Power Brakes. Note the difference in thier bolt patterns.

There isn't alot of room next to the Master Cylinder for regular hardline fittings. With a little hunting I found these very neat "Banjo Fittings" at Pure Choice Motorsports , I'm also using a pair of them on my 48 Dodge.."OBEASTY"

UPDATE... Febuary 24th 2009...On the left is a pic of "BUTRNUTs'" 1980 Cadillac Eldorado Right Rear Caliper and 10.5" Rotor. Due to the rather costly mistake on my part...of buying the wrong wheels...in order for the 14x6 Rally Wheels, that I bought at a swapmeet, to fit...I had to use 3/8" Wheel Spacers that is untill I could find a set of 69 Camaro 14x6 XG Disk Brake Rally Wheels.

When I bought my Rally Wheels I was asured that they would fit Disk Brakes. I should have done my homework and learned the wheel codes. They turned out tobe Chevelle wheels for Drum Brakes. In 1969 GM made two 14x6 wheels, one for Disk Brakes and one for Drum Brakes. The wheels are just enough different on the inside that a drum brake wheel won't clear the disk brake caliper. So I've been on a hunt  for another set of wheels with the proper XG Disk Brake Code stamped on them.

After a long  search I finally  decided to buy a set of Wheel Vintique Reproduction 14x6 Disk Brake Rally Wheels which I found at the Heartbeat City E-Bay Store. Now I can remove the 3/8" spacers, that I never liked using anyway,  which  will suck the tires inboard just enough to help with the  clearence between the tire and the upper part of the fender lip. Things should fit the way they're supposed to now.

My long time friend Chuck Grove ( C.H.Grove Enterprizes, Lynnwood Washington 425 398 1634 ) did a really nice job adapting these for me.
