Hello everyone, welcome to my page about my one & only Mazda 1988 121DA :D Mines the special version of the model that comes with a factory fitted vinyl/canvas sunroof. Marketed as the FunTop here in Australia (which is how I came with the DA-FT=daft :Þ) & Canvas top in Europe I think. This is my first & only car I've owned since the end of 2001. Pretty nice birthday & Christmas pressie eh ;)
Well heres what she looks like, aint she a cutey. My 3 door red 121 hatchback. Just after a carwash.
Powered by an almighty Mazda B3 1.3L, SOHC, 8 valves, 5 speed manual transmission, carburetted front wheel drive engine. She gets about 35/40 miles per gallon for you's in the U.S, which is about 7 litres per 100 kilometres?? someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Heres what some of the interior looks like, doesn't look very out of date just yet eh.
The cluster gauge, tachometer redlines at 6000RPM, the speedometer reads up to 170KPH & the odometer is just a little past 226,000 kilometers. Not bad for a car of this age huh, & still zoom zooming about. Thats Mazda reliability.
A recent addition, small fibre optics! These are activated by sound & flash to music. Looks pretty nice at night, & it'll flicker to just engine noise too. Pictured here with the sound sensor & cigarette lighter power plug.
A new clock, because I need to tell the time & using a mobile phone while driving is not only annoying but illegal. The dashboard clock is covered by the dashboard mat, cause it's meant for the Ford WA Festivas which never had the dashboard clock. Oh well, it's ok cause this is a better clock & it reads inside & outside temperatures as well & has a nice blue night time illumination. :)
I added a compass as well, not that I need one. But it's really cheap & looked nice so why not.
Who doesn't like Marvin the Martian?! "I claim this plant in the name of Mars oouu isn't that lovely?"
"Brace yourself for immediate disintegration"
This is what the rear passengers could be seeing if the sunroof was open. The electric sunroof can fully fold back to open about two thirds of the roof! Enough space to allow people to stand through it & waterbaloon some girls as a drive-by or,, well you get the idea. But it's not exactly something I want to have open during sunny days. Makes it harder to see properly with all that sunlight pouring in & sunburning you. But during the evening/night, it's a blast in warmish weather.
An exterior view of the sunroof opening.
So yeh, thats about it for now about my compact, economic, versatile, practile beast of an "Italian Job" machine. Well, hope you had a nice read & look here. Peace out, & ZOOM ZOOM.
