Jukaro's 1987 Porsche 924

So this is my work in progress, a very capable '87 924S. I've basically upgraded it with what was available to me and my bugdet at the time, but it's worked out pretty well so far. I'll list what I've done and the results in no particular order. Probably the best engine mod I have done was to install a powder coated MSDS equal length header, a 4 into 1 with 3" collector. I was very happy with how much it opened up the engine. I recently installed a cone filter in place of the K&N I had in the stock airbox, and I like it. I know there is a lot of debate over a cone vs. the 'cold air' factory setup, but I think stock airbox was too restrictive and am much happier with the cone and the intake sound. I installed an MSD 6AL ignition which seemed to be more of a refinement than real, noticable improvement. I think it seems to climb in the upper RPM's a bit better with the MSD, Accel Super Stock coil and Mallory 8mm plug wires, which can be used if you get new screw -on ends and crimp them on with the factory spark plug fittings. Taking out the catalytic converter made an impressive difference of course. The improved throttle disc made a very noticeable difference in responsiveness. I recently added a Europroducts chip to the car and am pleased with it, although I think my injectors are messy and the car is running rich. I think after I get the injectors cleaned up it will make all the current mods more apparent, which is not to say it isn't a very strong running car now.

Knowing the car will never be a truly fast one until I add nitrous or a small turbo, I've spent time on the suspension to make it handle as best it can. I installed a 28mm sway bar up front and a larger one in the back as well, a 21 or 22mm piece from a 944 turbo or 968, not sure which. The guys at Oklahoma Foreign can hook you up with a variety of larger, factory sway bars. I noticed the difference as soon as I backed out of my driveway, highly recommended. I've added a Racing Dynamics strut bar up front which really helped to reduce the 'pushing' the front end tends to do. The bigger tires and wheels helped out a lot of course. The fronts are 16x6 924 turbo wheels with 205/55/16 tires, the rears are 16x7 928 wheels with 225/50/16's on them. Aside from the wheels the only exterior mods are a 944 wing (which is larger without being ricey, adds a bit of attitude to the car) and a '924S' rear badge, made from 944S2 letters and numbers. Because the price was right I obtained a Stable Energies bar that fits above the rear seats and helps stiffen the hatch area which is supposed to be a weak point on hatchbacks. I'm not really sure how much difference it makes, but it looks cool anyway, and it makes sense that the area involved could use strenghtening. I installed Koni adjustables in the rear which was a huge step up from the KYB's I had on there. The ride is harsher but the cornering is flatter, so I am happy with it!

Future plans involve stronger, lower springs up front, upgraded strut inserts and then I think the suspension will be set up. The interior is out of a '91 944 with black leather seats, silver carpet and spilt back seat out of a 968. A leather Grant steering wheel helps me control it while a boxster rearview mirror lets me see who I've passed. I have aluminum Weltmeister pedal covers for a 911 but they fit great. Sound system is a pioneer head unit, 4 boston acoustic speakers and some fairly cheap amp powering a fairly cheap 10" sub. The amp and sub will be upgraded at some point but overall it's a decent set up. I'll add pics and more info soon! Update: Ok, still no pics but I have begun trimming excess weight. I started by removing the entire power steering system as I stopped using it a long time ago because it was leaking from the hoses and I prefer the 'feel' of manual steering anyway. I plugged the hoses going to the rack (I will remove the hoses when I get the car on a lift, it's difficult to get to.) I'm going to remove the rear hatch motor as it hasn't worked since I got the car no matter how much I adjust it. I'm working on a way to make the sunroof manual so I can ditch the motor set up there. My a/c has a leak so I think it will be removed soon as well, I just better get an extra car before next summer! I'm putting my seats up for sale and replacing them with some racing type seats. Of course the stereo system would be an obvious choice but no! At a track event I could easily remove the subwoofer box, so that's not a problem. I'm also considering switching to manual windows. Anyone with other ideas, let me know! AND NOW I'M GOING INTO A 'RICE' RANT! First let me say I don't hate all the jap imports, not at all. Some of them are very well done and show a dedication that surpasses mine, which is considerable. What I do hate is a perfectly stock car with a giant wing stuck on it and a whiney exhaust. Come on people! Don't you realize adding the weight and drag of that top fuel dragster wing makes your car slower? There are so many things that should have priority over a mammoth wing it's absurd! What I really don't get about the rice movement is the acceptance of front wheel drive. A popular import magazine put it well- "cars will hover before front wheel drive cars win at the highest levels of racing." Front wheel drive sucks! Before all you haters start screaming about how much better and faster your civic is than mine let me say SO WHAT! I'd rather have a slower rear wheel drive car any day! For me it's all about the fun I have driving my car and I don't understand why anyone would accept front wheel drive for a project car. But hey, if that works for you, more power to you. I would suggest to anyone thinking of getting a car to modify you drive several examples of each set up. Just remember, no drifting in front wheel spinners!

I have 18's on mine with low profile. I have no problems with rubbing or anything when I have only front passengers, which is fine with me, because I just use my Rodeo when I have a crew. If you want to go with bigger than stock rims...you have 2 choices to make it possible: low profile and if you want passengers in the rear without rubbing - upgraded springs. Have fun with the car!!

"Hey thanks", are the only words that Im writing for the last couple of days. The hits are by the thousands a day, the ratings have never been so high and messages from all over the place. Im glad one week is the max time for "stardom", phew, its hard work. From next week on, "the press", will be open again on a normal basis, for normal business as usual. Hope you were able to visit all the stories related to, "The Porsche 911", theyre still there and wont move away. Have a good time and drive cool. Thanks for having the time to write a note to a, "once upon a time", unknown guy from NYC now living in France since 1975, that perhaps has now finally had that one, never to be had again,.."Star for a day",.. (or one week with Cardomain.com),..And thanks again, to all of you good, "Dudes" and "Dudesses", out there in the "net-lands" of our Planet..
Marc/Cannes/France.
PS;Nice to see some "passion"
