Here is my '89 model MX5, 'Miles'.

I'd just bought a new hatchback when I came across this car. Despite always admiring the MX5, I was certainly not looking for a new car at the time. Least of all a 16 year old one.

The previous owner must've understood the charm of this car because she loaned me the keys with a casual smile. "Keep these for a bit - give them back when you're ready. Then it will be sold." I took the keys to be polite.

The first week it was a liability. The second week it became my daily. The third weeek I was driving places just for the sake of it, and during the fourth week my new hatchback went up for sale. I couldn't give those keys back - I was trapped.

Such is the character & charm of the MX5. Few people can drive one and walk away un-moved. While many can say "My car is bigger / faster / more masculine / newer than this", lovers of the MX5 love it for one reason alone: It has never tried to be anything other than itself. It does this better than any other car. To understand the full attraction you have to throw away your preconceptions and drive one as I did.

The first car I'd ever driven was my grandfather's MGB. Driving the MX5 immediately brought back all the memories & nostalgia of that first drive. For me, the MX5 is the volkswagen of all sportscars - not only the first affordable one, but the first since 1970 to get it passionately right.

I now can't help but spend my weekends polishing mine and admiring its sexy curves. Despite being the oldest car I've ever owned, it brings a smile to my face like nothing else. I'm hopelessly trapped.

I hope you enjoy my ride. I do.

Looking good. Nice to see a fellow Eunos owner taking such care of their car. I have done most of the mods you are thinking about. Check out my '5' and let me know what you think. Cheers..Mark (Leeds,UK)

Hi Matt, No problem about using the picture. I posted your question on the UK MX-5 OC website (address at the bottom of this message). Hopefully you will find the answer you need. As I type this there are already 2 replies which may be of use to you. Back to your car, I would go for bolt on items as you can easily remove them as you wish. The tan roof will look really good too and you don't see many about. I have added a dark red roof to mine and it looks really good with silver. Thanks for visiting my pages, I hope to update them soon, so take another look sometime :) . Matt http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/mx5forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5897

Same as mattbarr said. I thought of really keeping everything as orginal as possible, or at least reversiable, but it doesn't even matter. For such a low number on yours, I'd have everything reversable. Keep in mind that this is the #1 selling sports car, which corrallates to many being out there. So go with what you feel like to do with it. I highly recommend a rollbar over any style bar. I've had a cousin as of today who is parralized from a convertable that has no rollover protection. It was a 318ci convert. I've also heard many people commenting on how great of a decision I've made, as they've experienced first hand of a close one that was involved in an accident that didn't have rollover protection. It also looks cool too.............if you let it set in your head for awhile :D! Awesome NA, besides that.

Go ahead and do what you want to the car. The low number is cool but I doubt it will affect the value. Sorry to hear we are brothers in the slashed top crowd. But I'm using the opportunity to upgrade to Robbins:)
