Welcome to over Three Years of building a Custom Turbo Sport Compact. It is an ongoing process of pushing the upper limits of HP, Blowing a Motor, Rebuilding Stronger, Upping Boost Pressure and lowering 1/4 Mile times..
I would like to start by saying...
Thanks to all who like the car and Voted to nominate it for Show Off Of The Week. It was a complete surprise.
UPDATE SECTION:
I just replaced the turbo with a fresh GT-28RS. This is my daily driver and the old turbo lasted 80,000 Km of hard driving. It was perfect in color but the center started to fail and woble.
Here is my Mazda MP5T. I bought it new in August 2002 with the intension to void every warranty on it. Edwards Mazda in Pembroke would not give me a discount for not getting a warranty, However Jack at Parts has been a driving force in solving my problems and getting the parts that I needed or Forgot till the last second. He is a great person and a wonderful problem solver for me.
The pillars were removed from the car and with Bondo, I was able to get the pillars down to a metal smoothness. They were painted Mazda white to match the car and 4 clear coats went on. That work was done at Terry's Collision in Pembroke Ontario (613)-735-1778. His shop does very impressive work and I would recommend his professional skills to anyone who needs the job to be perfect.

I ordered the front mount intercooler from Final Lap in Ottawa. It's originally an upgrade part for a Nissan Silvia.

Major work began in March 2003 starting with finding a mechanic/welder who would build the turbo manifold that would become the heart of the system. I wanted something completely unique. Where I wanted the turbo to sit would require a completely custom manifold and downpipe. The manifold came to us as a bundle of 304 stainless steel tubes that had been sent to Toronto to be bent. I wanted the best flow as possible so each bend is a mandrel bend.
I got the Manifold Back after getting the EGT Probe welded in the collector. The Header wrap was ordered in Black this time and the Proper Stainless Steel DEI Straps came in 03 March 2005. Here are some Pictures of the Manifold.
The hardpipes leave the GT-28s at 2" Aluminum mandrel bends past a Turbo XS-RFL BOV.( Really F*#@ing Loud ) The 2" travels behind the center of the radiator and is covered by a deflector to lessen heat transfer from the radiator. It travels under the radiator support and into the Intercooler. The outlet on the intercooler is 2.5" ( The same size as the throttle body ) it also travels under the radiator support through a modified mass air, past the extra injectors and into the throttle body.
The stock motor mount were just not able to keep up with the extra 150+ WHP at 15.5 Psi so the rear one failed. Tony at Anthony Woodford Racing offers Poly-U Motor mounts. Now the car vibrates and feels rather rough at a stop or is not moving. Once it passes 1000Rpm, it drives like nothing else I have ever driven. Shifts are smooth and there is no longer any wheel hop off launch! A wonderful mod to start off any car. The trans and engine don't move at all and the result is a crisp shift and positive feel in the entire car.

Tony sold me his Prototype Triple Pass Competition Radiator recently, the rad forces the coolant to travel the entire surface of the rad rather than just the path of least resistance, the result, consistent coolant temperature and a much more effective radiator capable of removing all the added heat that the car was never designed to deal with. A Flexilite Fan Pushes air through the rad from the front.
A Flex-a-Lite Pusher fan sits on the front of the Radiator close to the front of the car. It pushes through and that keeps the Radiator free of crap in the engine compartment. It's a real clean looking setup...
I ordered the Apex-i N-1 Exhaust and was a bit shocked with the size of it, but it sounds nice, deep and best of all quiet.
BEAU at Mental Addiction had set up a group buy on www.protege5.com for Forged Olliver Rods and CP Pistons at whatever compression ratio you wanted. The New Block is rebuilt and was installed early April 2005.

ARP STUDS!
Rick Stroud at Engines Extra in Renfrew Ontario Took My engine to do all the required work such as Deck and Head. Alignhoning and then once it was all done, he assembled it with TLC and should take anything the turbo can throw at it.
Call them if you are in Ontario, 1-866-886-2228
The Shop is a full service operation.
Here is the Engine with Forged Internals..
The "Newest Engine" has been broken in at 4 Psi, It has over 30,000Km on it now and the rings have seated well. Not a drop of oil missing.

I recently Picked up a set of SPARCO TORINO Seats for the P5... I like the grey, It's simple..

With the car completely appart and easy to get at, I decided to redo the interior as well. The Radio Plate and parts of the center console were painted Gloss White and clearcoated the same color as the outside of the car.
You have to love the 8000K HID Headlights.
I installed an Advanced Clutch Technology Clutch Stage IIR, It is a little harsher than stock but still very drivable. The stock clutch was starting to slip after 30,000Km of Turbo driving, so well done Mazda on a great stock clutch. I was expecting it to fail much sooner.
The stereo was kept OUT OF THE CAR!
The Air Conditioner was REMOVED!
The Power Steering was REMOVED!
An APC Carbon Fiber Hood with the extractor vents is on the car but painted white. I can't stand the look of a black Carbon hood on a white car. It looks good on red, yellow, blue, Best on Black, But not my Whitey. It was just not for me. Sorry to those who have it on their car, it's just my opinion.
A set of Enkei CDR-9 18" rims with Yokohama PARADA-SPEC2 215/35/Z18 shoes was the choice for rollers.

The sport compact scene has a lot of rice, I live next to Quebec and I don't know what some of those guys are thinking... If one orange stripe looks good, 10 Will Look 10 times better Better. I wanted to put a different spin on the decal thing. The car has silver tint, brakes and rims. Silver decals seemed to be the only real choice. From a distance, you cannot see them and only when the light hits them are they legible. It's like a Stealth Rice thing. The Door Moldings were removed and replaced with a sliver decal that matches the shape of the molding and the color of the other decals. MP5T was cut out of the decal as the paint would show through...
Chris and Louise at Speedpro Signs Plus in Pembroke are the Decal Store of choice for the Ottawa Protege Owners. They have done all the Decals for the MP5T and the new set is on ready for the summer
