Introducing the latest addition to the fleet, our 2005 Lava Orange Mica, MAZDASPEED Miata which we purchased the last week of October 2005. It is production number 604 of only 1428 built (of a proposed 4000) for model year 2005. It is 1 of 394 Lava Oranga MAZDASPEED Miatas built. Our car was assembled on Friday, October 1, 2004. On December 14, 2004 a fire at Mazda's Hiroshima plant ended production of the 2005 model year Miata and a few other models as well.
We traded in our 2003 Garnet Red Mica Miata (see pages 4/5) in with just shy of 17,000mi. Like the 2003, we bought this car right out off the show room floor. As we were on the test drive, the dealer actually moved our 2003 right back in to fill the MAZDASPEED's spot. They didn't even have to clean it up for show!
The 2005 MAZDASPEED is equipped with a fully integrated IHI turbocharger with air-to-air intercooler producing 178 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. Which is a 25% hp increase over the standard Miata and 33% increase in lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a Bosch LSD, Bilstein shocks, thicker sway bars, 17" Racinghart Wheels with Toyo tires, 6-Speed transmission. The interior is black leather with silver stitching which is unique to Lava Orange Mica, as the other colors come with black leather and red stitching.
