9-15-04 H&R Sport springs and Bilstein Sport shocks.

First step......hmm...........Oh yeah, find the struts.
(they're behind the wheels)
Actually, the first step is to find a friend crazy enough to help you. Then make him do all the work while you take pictures. ;-)

Spring compressors? Who needs those?
We actually did not need these and they would not have worked regardless. You can take off a MKIV strut without any spring compressor at all.
Now, if you didn't bother to buy the $25 specialty tool which VW won't sell you anyway, then you have to get creative. Aka: use brute force, tools that kinda work, and beat the ever lovin crap out of a leather belt.

Tada!
Then, make your own special tool out of a 13/16 spark plug socket and an allen wrench.

There you go.
Next: make sure your new springs are actually lower than your old ones.

Reinstall in reverse order.

The rears are very simple: get your friend to do all the hard work again, then slap the new ones in.

(actually it's just 3 bolts per side and the suspesion falls off.)
Now, go admire your new ride height and handling.
