Next project: '96 front brake upgrade. It's a fairly simple swap, I just need the strut/knuckle assemblies out of a '96ish W body ('97 too for the CS, through '99 for the Monte and Lumina). I found some at a local yard but they wanted 100 bucks a piece for them.. so I'm going to look around a bit more first. I should've just offered $150 to see if they'd take it over $200.. oh well.

I need to do this SOON though.. my rotors have been warped for months and the wear-plate on the right side just started yesterday, so now my pads are nearly shot too. I plan on getting drilled rotors, haven't decided on the pads yet, or what brand or whatever for the rotors. But a 3/4 inch boost in size + being drilled.. my brakes should feel 100x better.

I was interested in doing the '94+ rear brake swap too, but it's too much of a hassle to get the parking brake to work, so I will most likely just get a slider repair kit online and just fix up the old calipers.

Some pics added. Check page 3 :)

Turns out I'm an idiot: The fog lights were in fact driving lights, and it turns out they ARE glass and metal, not plastic. I was really hoping to get lights with a fog pattern rather than driving, but oh well. At least I don't have dirty black holes in my bumper anymore :)

Today I plan on getting a claybar and cleaning up the paint really good.. I don't know if I'll finish but it at least needs to be started. Then I need to do a few touch up spots on the paint, then it's in for it's first full wax. Just hope the weather holds out..

Also aiming to get the wheels down to bare metal and polished, but that might not happen for a while :\

6.6.04

Won some new foglights yesterday :) between time in recieving the money order and shipping time I figure they'll be here in 2 weeks.

They're plastic rather than glass/metal, but they're cheap, they're a direct fit, and they actual have a fog light pattern. I could've gotten metal/glass ones that were also a direct fit for about the same price but they were driving lights.

6.1.04

Good news. After about 1/2 hour of wetsanding and 2 coats of wax, the burn spot from the heat gun is gone :) couldn't even tell it was there. Luckily it hadn't burned too deeply.

I was thinking today..
My Perfect Cutlass:
L67/5 speed swap (would settle for a turbo 3.1/5 speed swap)
strip & repaint Black
Black 5 spoke wheels
tires with yellow lettering..

5.30.04

All new pics today :) enjoy

5.29.04

got the trunk release wired up and working today :) also washed the bitch up good. she needed it. BAD. some waxing here and there too but not full-body. I'll get some new pics tomorrow morning. still need to vacumm the interior though. made an appointment to have it inspected wednesday so she'll be an illegal for two days.. oh well..

5.28.04

went to the yard and ripped a remote trunk release system out of a lumina. (ok, not really a system. more like a button, a wire, a ground and a solenoid). I bolted the solenoid into my car but I still have to wire it up. probably do that tomorrow. so scratch one thing off the list. maybe I'll fix the dash storage bin too. I'm still waiting on new front door switches.. mine are an absolute mess. passenger side is scratched up, as is the driver side, but on the driver side the driver window switch is broken in half. how that happened, I couldn't begin to imagine. but anyway. those should be here next week. 10 bucks shipped from a friend, so I'm not paying out the ass for them.

also need to scrape up cash to get it inspected.. it's expired by tuesday, but the only day I can really do it is tomorrow before it's over due. so yea, crap.

5.27.04

last door is WIRED! all power windows and locks now work :D

upcoming projects:
-fix storage bin that's supposed to mount next to the DIS in my dash
-new head unit; speakers
-Electronic Climate Control (digital vs. analog)
-fix my frigging fog lights...
-Remote trunk release switch
-keyless entry (possibly with a remote starter. I'll be crying for one when winter comes back)
-buy/install front strut tower brace

3.23.04

new pics. i did end up cleaning the tb, and broke the tb and iac gaskets in the process. also, went to a local yard and picked up window motors, lock actuators, switches and new door panels. I'll end up reusing my current panels and probably selling the ones I grabbed. I only have 1 switch, motor and actuator in place, mainly because I can't get them working til I go back and grab some relays and harnesses that I need.

2.28.04

Updated pages. Should be cleaning the throttle body today

2.17.04

the bitch is all mine :P

new pics coming soon.

story

Finally got the car on 2/17. Got it free from my grandparents. Gotta love family :)

It's got about 120~130k miles on the clock, I can't remember right now. It's a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, white ext., blue int., 3.1L engine, power nothing.

Nice front knuckle job. I plan on upgrading my Lumina too. Did you replace springs/cartages cause i bet mine are shot, and my strut bearings are creaking. I'm going to the wreckers soon, so you say a Cultass and Lumina strut towers are interchangeable? I know the back knuckles are. Thanks.

Hey bro, thanks alot for checking out my Cavi. I appreciate the comments and its really cool that I have a friend at school who enjoys cars and knows a thing or two about them. My car is a torquey SOB and loves to pull and pull hard. For a sport compact I think it holds its own very well. In my opinion, I have the best engine (2.2L Ecotec) offered in the J-body lineup, so that definitely helps out. On the J-body forums, many of the other body platforms get respect simply because they're strong cars (esp. Grand Prix's *cough cough*). RSM Racing, at first, presented themselves very well and had great customer service. I've had more than a few problems with my s/c kit since then and now I will no longer recommend them. Anyway, your car(s) looks great man and keep up the hard work! Later.
