I began looking for my replacement 1965 Mustang last year . I found the 64.5 on Ebay and contaced the owner so I could give it a look . I went and checked it out and found the normal rust and some abnormal rust including the hole in the drivers side roof "sail" panel . The Rustang had suffered from years of neglect and rotting away under a oak tree . I got giddy and felt sad for the poor car all at the same time . Something inside me told me I could save this poor girl and make her the classic Mustang she should be . I looked the car over , poked and prodded her , and felt pretty good about her since she was unmolested . Best I could figure the car had sat with a broken rear axle since 1982-83 . I thanked the owner for showing her to me and left for home . A few days later the auction ended and I was the high bidder . The next weekend my buddy Lysle donated his time and trailer to bring her home .
Once I got it home I started the tear-down and thats when the "Shock and Awe" started . There was more rust than I had purchased and every twist or turn of a fastner brought out more damage . Soon enough I debated scrapping the hull and swapping the hard parts over to another hull with less holes .
A fellow at work , Earl & his 57 Chevy along with several people at www.Vintage-Mustang.com
VMF talked me into keeping the hull and fixing it . If this car was a 1965 I likely would put it down but it is a true 1964 and a half Mustang built in June of 1964 ... sure enough I'll save it . It will take a bit more work than I had bargained for and a bit more cash but I could not put a early girl down without a fight .
