The car is a 1968 Galaxie 500 XL Convertible. It has a 390ci big block V8 engine with a 3 speed C6 trans and a 9" rear end with 2.75 gears. The car drives well but smokes some, however, it does NOT leak or have any knocking. The tires are BFG Radial T/A's 235/60's and have about 500 miles on them. I just drove the car on a 300 mi round trip and it drove great, no over heating at all. The engine does have a few new parts put in it including:
-Remanufactured distributer
-New plugs, wires, cap and rotor
-New belts
-New battery, starter solenoid, and wires

The previous owner rebuilt the engine about 7 years ago but it sat for a few years before I bought it which is probably why it smokes. The transmission works perfectly as well as the rear end. The exhaust on the car has a little surface rust but no holes and it has glass pack mufflers on it.

The body is what needs the most attention on the car. The rear right quarter panel has some damage and a hole from rust in front of the tire. The left is is in a lot better shape but still has a good size dent in it and the deck lid also has a large dent in it. The whole body has a little bit of surface rust on it but the only spot that has rusted though is the right quarter. There are a few places with some ameuter body work that will probably need to be redone. Most of the chrome is in decent shape but the bumpers has gotten some rust on them. The rear bumper also has been pulled out a little bit on the right side probably from the accident involving the quarter panel.

The Interior of this car is the nicest part about this Galaxie. If you look at some of the other pages on this site you can see the progress of its restoration. The car was completely emptied out and then taken down to bare metal. Most of the rear floor pans were completely replaced due to rust. After all the metal work was finished the car was coated in Por-15, then primered and painted black. The floors and fire wall were covered in insulation and new carpet. The console was repainted and the floor shifter repaired. Everything under the dash was repainted, the wiring was inspected, repaired, and retaped, and all of the light bulbs were replaced. Here is a list of all of the parts that went into the interior:
New floor insulation and carpet
New Dashpad Cover
New Chrome window cranks
New Chrome ashtray covers
New Chrome door handles
New plastic door handle cups
New Chrome lock nobs and grommets
NOS speedometer
New lightswitch
New Insturment panel voltage regulator
New Key lock cylinder
NOS Turn signal switch (the whole switch not just the cam)
New seat belts
New Chrome Grant 3-Spoke Steering wheel w/wooden grip
New Chrome turn signal lever
New Chrome rear view mirror

The seats, door panels, and every thing else vinyl were all redyed. The only major thing that I wish I could have replaced in the interior is the front seat covers. Both seats are torn up and as soon as I went to buy new covers, they stopped remaking them. So right now the front seats just have cheap cloth covers on them. The interior is in very nice shape compared to how it was when I bought it but it is not show quality, just a nice driver. There still are a couple of things that need to be fixed on the interior:
-Front Seats covers (the underneath has been redone and everthing works fine)
-Gas guage does not work (was working when i reinstalled everything but just recently stopped working)
-Needs a new underdash speaker (Radio was working when it was removed but the 40 year old speaker got broken in the process)
-Neutral Saftey switch (starts in park and neutral, but does not turn on the reverse lights)
-The Chrome on the plasitic part of the door panels has peeled off
-Needs a new glove box light.
-Drivers door lock spring is broken so the door locks when you shut it.
-The left vent window does not completely shut and has broken lose from the top hinge.
-The car did not come with the console ash trays so I just put some cup holders in their place.
-The odometer seems to run twice as fast as it should

The car has a new convertible top and well liner that was installed by my dad and I. There are a couple of wrinkles but over all it is pretty good looking. The glass is all in good shape except for the windshield. It looks like the right wiper was bad or had debris in it because there is a inch wide scratch on the path of the wiper. It does not interfer with your view while driving but it is apparent.

That is all of the big things that need to be finished in the interior to really make it show quality. Outside of the interior there a few more things that arent working right:
-Engine smoking (probably rings, I put new valve stem seals on it)
-Carb, makes a hissing noise and accelerater pump does not work so the car hesitates if you jump on it.
-The heater core needs to be replaced and the blower motor is not working.
-Needs a new washer pump
-I noticed that the cable for the emergency break was starting to split while I was doing the floors so I removed it but never got it replaced.
-The right valve cover got cracked when the bolt was overtightened so I welded it up on the inside but it will need to be replaced eventually

I am listing everything that I am aware of that does not work that way there are no surprises for the buyer. However, it is a forty year old car and I cannot guarentee that there arent other things not working that I am not aware of. For conditions of sale or to bid on the car please visit it's Ebay auction. If you need to contact me for more information or more specific pictures of the car email me at orange_eskimo@hotmail.com or call me at 636-751-5020, please only call me between 1:30pm and 3:30pm Mon-Thurs. or anytime Fri-Sun.

EVERTHING BELOW THIS IS OLD PICTURES AND INFORMATION ON THE CAR. PLEASE USE IT TO LOOK AT THE PROGRESS OF THE RESTORATION BUT THE PICTURES (TAKEN 9/3/2005) AND INFO ABOVE ARE THE MOST RECENT.

I know that most people dont start restorations with the interior and I really didnt mean to. When I was installing my new shifter I discovered the floors were kinda rusty so I started emptying the car out. Once I pulled up the rear seats I found out that the rust was worse than I thought and I had to cut alot of the floors out.

The front was not bad though so I just stripped it and coated with por 15 and primered it.

I was kinda in a hurry and forgot to take pictures of the finished pans. These are the floors after the insulation was installed.

Before I could install my new carpet I had to repaint my console. This the new color vs the old one.

After enough convincing I finally got the carpet to fit pretty well.

I had some extra carpet so I lined the console box with it.

For Supremes, www.uswheel.com makes them but they don't directly sell, they sell to www.summitracing.com, you can get them there too even if the size you want isn't listed they can most likely get it for you. Also very nice Galaxie, keep up the good work!

well man, about the baggin... its fairly simple, but it wasnt my first setup... we had to notch the front spring perches a little bit to get my desired height, then we made cups to put on the bags to fit into the place of the springs, then in the rear, we just replaced the springs with the bags... but now ive decided to go for the worlds lowest galaxie, so we have notched the rear end, and relocating the front arms to slam the body onto the ground... then we are replacing the flooring, and doing a bunch of other work... thats where it gets serious... butim also adding a 4 link, so it will be a little more sturdy.. good luck and yours looks good
