The main part of the car that I have sunk some good money into is the audio setup. Right now the grand total spent on audio compnents so far is around $750.
Right now I have the following setup:
Head Unit: Alpine 9805
Front Speakers: Infinity Reference 652.I's
Rear Speakers: Infinity Reference 652.I's
Amplifier: US acoustics USB-2100
Subwoofer: Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1
Box: Q-Logic QLH-CS12
Wiring: StreetWires 8awg Blue Kit with interconnect
I am really going for a basic Sound Quality setup that is fairly flexable.
The Alpine CDA-9805 replaced the old Sony CDX-2250 that came with the car when I got it. I haven't had time to really tweak the new Alpine yet but I can already tell a big difference in power, sound quality, and adjustability.
I am running the US Acoustics USB-2100 off the subwoofer preouts into the Infinity 12.1 bridged for an output of 300 watts. Again I am still setting up the amp and breaking in the sub so there is a ton of major adjusting to do on the gain, crossover, bass boost, and settings on the head unit to get this thing sounding wicked good. Already it feels like this thing is going to pound pretty good. WinISD beta predicts the group delay to peak at just 6.55 ms at 40hz in the current box. The amp is currently facing east west in the trunk right behind the rear seat but that will soon change as the east west configuration makes adjusting settings a nightmare; I have to fold down the rear seat and fold the front seat forward and lay ontop of the back seat while squinting to see the adjustments.
I figure that I am probably going to get nowhere near the max out of this subwoofer with my current power setup but it still should be more than enough. On the sheet Infinity sent with the sub it showed Excursion in a 1^3 foot sealed enclosure driven by 500 watts and it wasn't even hitting its Xmax then.
I purchase the Infinity 652.I's when I got the car and I am very happy with them. Very nice sound, with some decent low end responce down to a limit. I am using all stocks grilles in this car so you can't even tell they are there until you turn the system on.
My next planned and much needed upgrade is Damplifier by Second Skin Audio and lots of it. I figure 50^2 feet should be to do the doors, the entire trunk and anything else that needs some help. Even with the old Sony head unit, and just the 652.I's I could tell it needed some sound dampening material, with the new head unit, amp, and sub it is very apparent at times.
