Valentine One (V1) "Stealth/Less Clutter" Hardwire Install - 01/31/2005

Hey all!

I just decided to hardwire my V1 tonight after a friend asked me how to do it (what better way to procrastinate than to work on your car, right? ;) ). I've seen several DIY on here but none with detailed pictures nor any similar process as my method. Anyway, my method does, however, require an extra phone cord and one or two male connectors BUT it allows one to save that hardwire kit that comes with the kit. It also makes it less cluttered in that sunroof panel.

Okay, so here goes. :D

Tools & Parts Required:
- Wire stripper (I used small scissors - more control :D )
- Wire cutter (I used small scissors here too)
- Male connectors x 2 (your V1 comes with ONE but if you want to save it, you'll need TWO)
- Wire taps x 2
- Crimper
- V1 display unit (obviously)
- Telephone cable (extra one)
- Electrical tape (optional and only if you have a non-black telephone wire)

First thing I did was to take my telephone cable and cut one end off (left some room in case I wanted to reuse it). You can see the length of cable I used below. Then I cut a slit down the middle. I noticed that the V1 only uses the TWO CENTER wires for power and ground. I then stripped each of the four wires on that telephone cable and twisted each pair on each side together (you only need the two center wires but I twisted the outer ones with the inner ones for a more secure connection). Then crimp a male connector on each end of the telephone cable (I used one red and one blue to help me distinguish which is which even though the red one is for a larger gauge, I think).

After crimping the connectors, I popped open my sunroof panel (yank the portion facing the rear of the car downward) and located two wires:

Violet w/ White Stripe (power - mine is RED because I have the Sunroof Eclipse which taps into the Violet w/ White Stripe wire)

Brown (ground)

I lightly cut a slit in each wire to enhance the connection (note the slit in the brown wire below - I accidentally cut the yellow/black wire too :( ):

Attach the wire taps to each of the two wires. Then simply connect the male connectors to each wire tap. I don't remember which went to which but if it doesn't work, switch them. :D NOTE: One of the wires I tapped into, you'll notice, is RED and NOT violet/white. This is because I tapped into my Sunroof Eclipse's wire which is tapped into the violet/white one.

Put everything back in and then, if you didn't use a black telephone cable, wrap it in black electrical tape for an even more stealth appearance. :D I was also debating on whether or not to paint the wire black or just use the other black wire I had but decided that this process is not permanent (have the V1 mirror coming soon) and that I wanted to save the black wire for another time.

That's it! Now go and enjoy your V1 without having to have the wires clutter up your cigarette lighter. =)
