OK: I just picked up a 4 bolt main 350

(# 010 block) and a pair of #487 heads.

This combo should be good to around 500 HP, if i want to build it that much. Right now its torn down, it was a running but weak motor. No specifics yet on how im gonna build it, but my dreams are limited by the cost of gas.
I think I have to keep the compression to around 9.1-9.2 so I can run 97 Octane. This will limit me to about 400HP/400 Torque. But then again, that's not bad. If I run aluminum heads, I can bump compression to 10.1-10.2 and get about 500HP/500TQ.
Check out that ridge in the cylinder! That is not much wear for a motor out of a '71 pickup. The oil pump and timing chain (among other things) are original GM, so I dont' think that this engine has ever been rebuilt. Cool.
I'm gonna need a strong rear end, a new TH350 transmission, upgraded brakes, bigger wheels/tires (which means cutting out the fenders) and traction bars.
I already need paint, and the interior is looking a little ragged, so I'm thinking that a total resto is an order.
I plan on building the engine, rear-end, and maybe the tranny myself. I'll do my own paint, and my own interior and suspension work, too. This is gonna be a huge challenge!
