GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Here is my 1967 Chevy Camaro convertible. It is an early production '67 that was built the third week of October, 1966. I still have the original 210hp/327 V-8 engine and 2-speed powerglide transmission that it came with from the factory. It was originaly Butternut Yellow with a black power top and Deluxe Black interior. Here is what it looked like when I bought it in October of 2004.GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet CamaroGunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet CamaroI have replaced the kickpanel speakers with Boston Acoustics RX-47's and I have replaced the old mono speaker from under the dash with a pair of BA FX4's in a custom frame. I modified a pair of cheap speaker boxes to fit my Boston Acoustics RC61 6.5" component speakers for the back seat so I can lock them in the truck if I leave the car with the top down.
GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet CamaroI replaced the tires and rims that came with the car with rally rims and bigger tires. This pic shows 15x8 rallys with 235/60/15 Eagle GT IIs all the way around, but I have since replaced the fronts with 215/60/15 Radial T/A's on 15x7 rims.

February '05. It is time to give the original 327 a rebuild. Here is what my engine and trans looked like when we pulled them out. That's my neighbor, mentor and main source of tools and insperation John giving the camera a big thumbs up. GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet CamaroGunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
and here is what the same engine looks like now.

The pistons are now .030 over and the crank was ground .010. the rods were OK, so they were refurbished with ARP bolts, and then the rotating mass was balanced. The machine work was done by Dave Arce. The original heads have been replaced with 64cc 462 camelhump heads that now have hardened seats and have been pocket ported by Arce Enterprises. They are fitted with new valves, guides and springs and Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers. The stock cam has been replaced by a Crane Cams 270H. I replaced the stock intake with an Edelbrock Performer and rebuilt a Q-Jet that came from a '68 Camaro. The stock points and condenser have been upgraded by an HEI setup from Dave's small-body HEI's. I have ceramic coated Doug's Headers and a 2.5" dual x pipe Pypes exhaust system with Race Pro mufflers that will complete the engine. I have replaced the original stock 2 speed powerglide transmission with a TH2004R 4 speed overdrive automatic transmission from Bowtie Overdrives. I updated the wiring with a 'New System' from Mad Electrical and a 94 amp alternator.

While we were removing the engine I discovered a massive amount of rust all around the front windshield and inner cowl.

We had to replace the entire inner cowl and dash and rebuild the windshield frame. Thanks to Doobie, Jason, and Frenchy for their welding efforts and John for the Bondo lessons!

The subrame was powdercoated by PowderOne in El Cajon and the new brake lines are from Inline Tube.

January '06. She's back on the road! We fired up the engine for the first time after the rebuild on the day after Christmas. After breaking in the engine and transmission and fixing a bucnch of small leaks, we made her first road trip to Kragen today, 6 Jan '06. Almost a year after we started this project. How apropriate. Here is a before and after of the engine compartment.GunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet CamaroGunnerV's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
Next comes body and paint. Stay tuned...

I had one of these in the early 90's. Couldn't keep up with the rust in the floors. I'd love to lay my hands on another. This was without a doubt the best year for the Camaro. And the conv is king. Enjoy this car and if it's ever for sale I'd love to talk.
