Brake upgrades

Front:
I got a set of Infiniti Q45 calipers/torque members/rotors. The advantage of these calipers is that they are two-piston, increasing clamping force. The caliper and torque member bolt right up, but there isn't enough clearance for the rotor. Either I have to get the rotors machined down about 3mm in radius, or grind the caliper and add spacers behind the rotor to center it under the Maxima torque member, since the rotor is too close to the piston side of the caliper without them. For more info, read
this discussion on Maxima.org. It's about J30 calipers, but J30 and 1st generation Q45 calipers are the same.

Update: I got the calipers and rotors installed, but it was a LOT of work. First, I had to grind the crap out of the stock torque member, so that it would clear the Q45 rotor. Second, I had to grind the crap out of the calipers, so that they would slide back and forth freely. Then I had to fabricate a spacer to go behind the rotors, since they have a wider offset than the stock rotors. This required a lot of test fitting. I haven't really had a chance to test the brakes, but will give an update on how they feel.

03/01/06: I got a few chances to really test out these brakes, and they really make a difference over the stock calipers/rotors. Brake feel is excellent, with a firm pedal. Some of the brake bias which was transferred to the back due to the Z31 rotors seems to have returned to the front, as the car slightly nosedives coming to a stop.

Rear:
The 1986 Nissan 300ZX and 1987 200SX V-6 have the same hub diameter as the 89-94 Maxima, but the rear discs are about 1" larger in diameter. To be able to use these rotors, Jeff92SE on Maxima.org designed a bracket to relocate the caliper.
Here are the pictures of his setup.
For details, read the discussion on Maxima.org

I just installed these brackets, and they really make a difference in braking. Nosedive is nonexistent now, and the car just comes smoothly to a stop. With a little grinding on the caliper they'll fit under stock 15" wheels. Worthwile for $75 brackets and ~$45 rotors.
