Red against Tangerine just does not work.
Some APC Generation 2 tail lights and new reverse lights with chrome trim fixes all of that. It also makes the car look more contemporary (Euro look), yet more retro, which is what the PT Cruiser design is all about. It needed a little more shiny stuff, too.
The APC lights minimise and separate the red.
I think the APC lights are inherently a bit safer--only a small portion of the OEM lights illuminate, where a driver behind you may not expect that and your hitting the brakes may not "click" with them.
