The Road to 200 HP
I thought that some people might like to follow along on my way to get 200 ponies in my Scirocco. I think there might be some V8 guys out there that might think that it a pretty small goal, but I've only got 2 liters and 8 valves to work with. I may try to get to 2000 pounds too for a rockin' hp to weight ratio. Anyway, here's my story with prices at the bottom.
Step 1
Engine Management System

I wanted to have a engine management system (EMS) that would work with my normally aspirated (NA) engine now and with a forced induction system later. That meant that it needed to be fully programmable. I first looked at systems from SDS. Theirs didn?t need a laptop, but I had to let them know which one I wanted the system for. Then I looked in to Tech III. That was a pile of cash. Then I looked at MegaSquirt. I was going to build it myself, but luckily, my friend Grant said he would build it. The day I go to order it, the MS parts guy is out of town for 2 weeks and it would be two more weeks before I could get the parts in hand and it still needed to be built. I found a pre-built and tested one on E-bay for $320. That?s about $100 more then the parts so I got it. I also picked up a PII lap top for $240. Now I just need to get a fuel rail, pressure regulator, injectors, MAP sensor, and a cone filter.

I got a fuel rail, injectors, injector harnes, mounting hardware, fpr, intake manifold (exit on the passanger side)and a a2 throttle body (I could resist picking that up too) for $20 from a yard called Tates. Grant got a throttle body from a auto 16v passat for me for $20. That has a throttle position switch on it.
Sub-total $600

I got my BIG injectors today. 440cc Bosch units! These will be able to flow enough fuel for 258hp, but in a NA form, I won't be able to get close to that. At the crank, I hope to have 150 which is about 135 at the wheels. I'm thinking about getting a g-tech for tuning, I need to do something and I can't see running off to a dyno run each time I change something.
