update update....while on my month of xmas break from college i got a good amount of work done on the car. i got a neon blue underbody kit, seat covers and new boxes for my subs. i also got new speakers for my doors. lot to see i will show all when i steal my camera back from my mom. she borrowed it but hasnt given it back yet. pics will come soon.

Welcome to the freak show. This is my 1988 subaru DL. I previously had a 90 geo prizm which i gave to my sister and now i have my grandmoms old car. The car was bought new by my grandmom so she was the only owner. unfortunetly she let it sit in her driveway for 2 years leading to rust damage and engine problems. i just ran through the full gas tank which was 2 years old. Put some gas treatment in there to help it out but the car runs very sluggish and needs at least 15 minutes to warm up. otherwise it will stall when i try to go. It is an automatic with 3 gears. I think this is a doable project so i will venture into it and hope for the best.

so far ive put a new battery in the car and two new tires. o yeah and an oil change. I have my system consisting of 2 10" pioneer 500 watt max subs powered by a rockford Fosgate punch 600 watt amp. i need to replace the speakers in the car and buy a head unit. ill prolly put 6 by 9's in the back and hook them up to my pioneer 240 watt amp. wish me luck

upcoming additions
~catalytic converter (this one doesnt sound or smell like its good)
~performance wires/distrubutor cap/ spark plugs
~fill in rust spots
~paint job

allright update:::
I replaced the wires and spark plugs and the car still runs like shit. It hesitates and stalls sometimes if not warm. starting to sound like a definant catalytic converter problem. Its got all the symptoms. clinking noise under car. burning smell, hesitating engine, lost performance, etc. So as soon as i get some money thats the next thing to be replaced.

another update:::::
i got hooked up by a friend of mine and am getting a brand new full exhaust for the car for only 230 dollars. thats half of what the catalytic convertor alone would have cost me. It should be in by my birthday oct 28th and im also getting a pioneer 4600dep head unit so i can hook the subs up. yeah budddy...
now i just have to get someone to install the exhaust for me. i'd do it myself but i dont have the time. i'm also thinking about getting a flowmaster put on while im at it. im also thinking about that turbonator thing ive seen advertised in all the import magazines. it seems like it might be a good idea.

::::cost factor for project so far:::
~spark plugs - 10
~wires - 30
~deep sockets- 50
~heavy duty battery- 80
~2 rear tires -160
~oil change - 25
~labor -75
~full exhaust-230
~exhuast inst.-120
~o 2 sensor -60
~head unit -200
~wiring/extention kit-20

updated project pics on pg 3

Dude please tell me you know how to take the dash apart. I have a 88 dl wagon and my dash lights went out and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take it apart. Not even in the hanse book i bough can I find it.

Hey dude. That isn't a STB under the hood, that's the bar that holds the spare tire in place. Since I don't have a spare under my hood, that bar is just sitting there. Some people have had luck making their own STBs, though. If you want some more info about your car, check out www.ultimatesubaru.net !
