I've had my dart for over 10 years now, it was my first car, and until a couple months ago, my only car. It was bought new by my great-grandparents in late '74 and driven about 36,000 miles before it came to me. garage kept with a showroom shine. unfortunately, age, and neglect took it's toll in dry rot and rust. so, at the age of 15, i began what would become an ongoing project of slowly rebuilding and upgrading it to be unique among the most produced model of all dart. The original slant 6 gave way to a .030 over 318 with 9.2:1 compression, performance cam, dual plane TQ intake from a 340 with a 600cfm holley (a 750 waiting to go on). she's still got the stock 7.25 rear end, and 904 tranny, but hopefully that'll be taken care of soon, along with replacing the 4 wheel drums with wilwood disks.
the suspension is upgraded to a pair of .99" (road racing) torsion bars up front with a 1 1/8" pst sway bar.
the back has heavy duty leafs. riding on 15x7 centerlines with 215/60 bfg T/A's
i'm now a grad student in industrial design, and have decided to use my dart for my graduate project. so she'll be seeing a whole new life.
plans include major frame stiffining, interior upgrades, composite (custom made carbon fiber) body work with shelby styling influence. american racing 17x7 salt flat wheels with comp t/a's. if the 318 remains, it'll get a 4" stroke, and a TPI conversion, plus full roller valve train. and if she's luck W2 heads. the rear will be tubbed, with a slightly narrowed 8.75" sure grip with 4link suspension.
Here's my latest piece of Design work i'm playing with. i'm making it a modern interpretation of the Scout.
