Got my ACT Stage 1 Clutch Kit in. Comes with new Nachi pilot and throw-out bearings, Clutch Alignment tool, Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, and Modified Street Disc.
This is the new disc on the left compared to the OEM worn out disc on the right. The OEM disc is toasted, right down to and worn the rivets. The clutch was slipping majorly just driving the car up onto the ramps.
Here all installed, Machined Stock Flywheel, Clutch Disc, Bearings, Seals, and Pressure Plate.
The W58 5sp cleaned up, and refreshed with a coat of Aluminum high heat paint. Replaced rear main transmission seal.
Among the upgrades, a LJM tower strut bar is included, and on the right is the Hyme joint of the bar. This strut bar is a very high quality piece, I purchased it through a group buy on CelicaSupra Forums. A great place to find information on these cars as well as parts and part sources. Many many members are extremely useful, and you are sure to find someone that is doing similar things to you, whether more power, stereo, drifting, or just restoring.
Just got my new Seat latch/shock tower chassis stiffener bar today from Rabidchimp (May 20/05). Powedercoated Satin Black, "Make from solid 6061 aluminum, its designed to stiffen up the ass end of your MK2 Supra. It bolts directly to the seat latch holes, and requires no modifications for installation." To quote Aaron. Cannot wait to install it.
Another upgrade is this new cluster of which the speedometer is pictured. The original cluster only read up to 85mph or 140kmh. As good of an idea as it was from Toyota, if I pushed the car to peak, I could nearly max out the speedometer in 3rd gear. I found this quite amusing, so I read up and looked around for a new cluster, and just this spring (2004) found a new cluster from an 85 Celica in the Kelowna Pick-a-part for a good ol' $7.99. The only thing needed was to swap out the tachometer insides, due to the difference in readings from the Celica's 4 cylinder to the supras I6. The reading on the Tach has a different redline, but no matter, when a person knows a car well, they just go by feeling, not by reading. I think in the near future I am going to order a set of custom SpeedHut glo gauges to update and give a nicer color with night driving.
Approximately a week after i purchased the car, I took it to Trimline and has teh rear window and two rear quarter windows tinted out in limo black, I personally think it really enhanced the looks of the car as well as providing more security and better cooling. The following summer of 2002, I was visiting friends in Edmonton, and decided to have the front windows also tinted out in Limo, I was awesome and looked great. The only bad part, is it was hot, and it was recommended that I not roll the windows down for 3 days, and considering my AC was shot and mid summer on the highway, my friend George and I got good and hot. We had to open the door every little while too cool down, and at 120ish kmh's it was windy. I successfully avoided the police from catching me with the tint for nearly 2 full years, I even went through and inspection with the windows unrolled, because it was hot outside, they didn't say a thing. In Kamloops they finally figured it out, and I had a month to remove it. I am considering putting it back on, because i really liked it that way.
As much of a hype the Coolflex hoses get, they are great quality, and helped a little with cooling, and do look great in a car. However I have to say that for my particulat application they were a huge PIA to install, as u can see the tight curves needed to be made, and then manipulate it onto the rad and thermostat housing. Last summer my radiator was giving me the run around, heating up, even after a good dunk and flush, so I took the radiator out of my 87 supra sittin in the yard (blown head and turbo), and I only had to remove the auto tranny coolant inlets, since my tranny is manual, no biggie. this made a big difference in cooling along with the addition of teh 11 fin fan off the turbo'd engine. Just I still need to modify my shroud to make it fit the car.
I finally got tired of thinking about buying a short shifter, and made my own, I basically just modified my existing shifter, and reduced the length approximately 3-4 inches. While I was in kelowna visiting my girl, I bought myself a nice MOMO shifter knob which sits very far down on the shifter rod, so that it is only approx a half an inch higher than the rod top. While at it I also made a new shifter boot to replace the old ugly burgandy/terracotta one, made this one out of black vinyl. Because of the shifter height change, the bag wrinkles, I personally like it, instead of the small tiny boot that would have to stretch with each shift. Before the change, the original pattern was much wider. 1st to 5th was approx 8-9 inches, now the shortened rod shortened the distance to approx 3-4 inches. Much nicer to drive and I can feel each shift nicely, literally feeling each gear engage.
I was tired of the terracotta(maroon) and striped interior and door panels. Here is the door panels after converting the vinyl to black and recovering the cloth insert with a light cream (almost white). I want to redo with leather or vinyl that matches the headliner (a sandy beige). Dramatic difference in color I think. To bad that the cloth shows any little dirt or mark, another reason to switch to vinyl or leather.
While I was switching out dash and door parts I also tried dying the rug, here is it half dyed and half not. I used a spray dye, but when shampooing and vacuuming it slowly faded out. So I removed them completely and dyed them in a wash machine with cloth dye, worked great, and have shampooed like 3 times since, still perfect black.
I recently upgraded my radiator to a PWR Aluminum Radiator and then installed Flex-a-Lite 220 Electric fans
These 2 upgrades were really worth it, I have yet gotten the car over heated or even really hot.
Here is the fans and rad installed together with the MKIII supra upper brackets to hold it in place. RAD & Fans
I have nearly all my suspension parts now and am getting ready to install them.
