After checking out my '62, please go look at my 1965 Ford Custom police interceptor. It's got a factory 390/4 speed.
This car started out life as a mild mannered, straight-six-auto-on-the-tree grandpa car that I drove back and forth to high school for 2 years. During college, I parked it and started building a motor for it.. not a 6 banger, but the FE big block that's in it now.
I have never had it down the strip due to safety concerns and severe traction problems; but it'll roast the tires until I let go, and gets approximately 4 miles per gallon.
BOTTOM END
Ford 391 truck block, cross-bolted mains, bored .080 over, 428 crankshaft, Ford LeMans rods, Arias custom pistons (12.5:1), Comp Cams 306 duration .650 lift solid roller camshaft w/108 LSA, Edelbrock solid lifters, extensive oiling modifications including external pressure shunt to feed mains first from oil pump (not a side oiler block.)
TOP END/EXHAUST/IGNITION
428 SCJ heads, ported/polished/shaved, bronze guides, hardened seats, Manley stainless valves w/5 angle valve job, Comp Cams valvesprings w/titanium retainers, custom billet rocker shafts with custom billet rocker spacers, rocker arms by Comp Cams, roller tip and fulcrum. The mixture is handled by a 1963 Ford LeMans dual quad aluminum intake w/2 Edelbrock 500 cfm carbs. Exhaust is vented through 1962 Ford 406 cast iron headers into 2.5 inch two chamber Flowmasters. Ignition is a Ford Duraspark electronic ignition with distributor re-curve, Ford Racing brain box, and custom wiring harness.
I might try fuel injection next summer!
TRANSMISSION
1967 Ford C6, hardened input/ouput shafts, Motorsport Severe Duty planetaries, Kevlar clutch packs + bands, Hipster full manual/reverse valve body, 4000 stall Dynamic torque converter, all shifted via column.
DRIVESHAFT/DIFFERENTIAL
Stock driveshaft from 1959 Ford wagon, re-tubed with moly steel and balanced, stock Ford 9", nodular pig w/Strange street spool, Summit 4:11 gears, Strange axles.
SUSPENSION/WHEELS/TIRES
Stock, very shot suspension! Bad factory ball joints, loose idler arm. Leaky factory shocks front, old-school Trak Auto shocks rear. 15 inch steel rims and hubcaps from a 1959 Ford, crappy Firestone whitewall rubber. (This is the next project on my ever-growing to do list.)
BRAKES
Stock, 4 wheel drum, rear shoes and wheel cylinders replaced, fronts original, original single resivoir master cylinder, and a broken parking brake. **Just acquired... front disc brake conversion kit, installing soon!!**
BODY/INTERIOR
Rust-free Florida body, frame and floors. Just did a repaint and minor dent smoothing at my shop, red/white two-tone. Interior is factory, red and white, in decent shape. I added a CD player, hidden in the glovebox so as not to ruin the vintage look of the interior.
I hope you all like the car, and thanks for looking!! Check back often, as I'll be adding pictues and maybe a burnout video. Also, go see my other car!
A picture I found of a '62 police car. Not mine, but still cool.
