Major problem # 1

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroThe front bolts on the engine cradle were rusted so bad that the heads broke off. I soaked them with PB Blaster and tried again on the other side. I ended up breaking off both bolt heads and both nuts, leaving just the bolt shaft stuck in the tube.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroWe used an angle grinder to cut through the tubes and bolts. Here you can see the rusted threads in the tube.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroEngine coming down. Checking for hung wires and hoses.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroEngine, trans and rear suspension finally out.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroObligatory picture of the empty engine compartment.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroCar and engine moved outside for cleaning. Again the forklift came in handy.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroEngine/trans separated from the cradle.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroHere's the front engine cradle mount after I had to cut it off. The weld is only on the outside of the frame.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroI ground off the remaining mount until it was flush with the frame.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroWeld ground completly off.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroWith the weld gone I was able to hammer the remainder of the tube out of the cradle.

marvyn741's 1988 Pontiac FieroTube out and ready for it's replacement. I welded in a peice of pipe of the proper outer diameter then drilled it to accept the bolt then trimmed the ends to fit the cradle mounts on the car.
