Press on the middle of the clip using a screw driver. Pull out all the clips gently, make sure the middle part doesn't pop out.

Once all clips are removed gently open the middle (blue part). It doesnt open much so you have to squeeze in your hands. Then unhook the clips behind the grill. There are 4 on top, one on each side and two in the middle. 3 on the bottom, one on each side and one on the middle.

When you get the grill out sand it down. Spray primer then black paint I used rust-oleum satin black, its not too shiny. I did numerous light coates. I finished half the can then I let dry overnight. Hopefully that helps! Good Luck!!

Sweet ride man, I just started work on my T6. I blacked out the grill but opted not to put the emblem back on since it was all chipped up. I wish I had seen your instrucitons before I started, it's near impossible to get the grille out with out going at it from the back side like you suggested.
