Brief history: The Camaro SS originated from the Z/28. The SS, today, is mostly consists of an appearance package and a slight performance upgrade. The 98+ LS1 F-Body in Z/28 form makes between 305-315 horsepower. GM surprisingly has been proven to lie about the performance of its F-Bodies (Camaro/Firebird) to keep it out of the performance bracket of the Y-Body (Corvette).
