MAGNUS SHEET METAL INTAKE MANIFOLD INSTALL
______________________________________________________________________________
This page will cover the install of my sheet metal intake manifold. These are Dyno proven to 40-55hp at the wheels depending on the setup. This install will be covered in HCI magazine so watch out for it there. A few months ago they covered the direct port nitrous install on my GTi VR6 incase you caught that.
Thanks to Marco at Magnus Motorsports for the hook up on the manifold. It will be a great piece for HCI. If your interested in a good intake manifold for your DSM this is it.
Here is the old intake manifold before I started to do anything. Doesn't look very performance oriented to me. So it's time to pull that puppy off and get something on there that makes some power.
After about 2 hours of work the stock intake manifold is removed. A bracket on the under side of the manifold was the hard part.
I upgraded to a 1G throttle body (left) which you can see is much larger then my old 2G throttle body. 60mm vs. 52mm is the difference. Believe it or not that 8mm is a huge difference when you look at it in person.
Here is a shot of the old intake manifold beside the Magnus sheet metal intake manifold. You can see the runners are straighter, shorter, and the plenum on the mangus unit is much larger. A short runner large plenum design creates a lot of HP on a turbocharged application. Midrange power remained about the same maybe went down slightly but the increase from 5500-7500rpm is huge the extra power really comes on at 5500rpm. When driving fast youre always in this 2000rpm band anyways so the increase is instantly noticeable when driving hard.
Here I am installing the new intake manifold and 1G 60mm throttle body.
Since the coil pack and the igniter were mounted on the old manifold I had to find a place to relocate them. This is where the coil pack ended up and the igniter ended up on a bolt from the intake manifold which was easy to mount and kept it hidden.
Since the throttle body is moved out about 2 inches the stock batter was too wide so I swapped it for a thin and light Civic unit. I had to make some minor adjustments to my upper intercooler pipe and my MSD unit however that was small and easily changed to accommodate the new manifold.
Here is the new intake manifold installed and ready to go. Big improvement!
