Update:

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner I just got done with a big project. I had a loose exhaust stud that allowed water into my exhaust. So long story short got the head resurfaced and replaced head gasket. But I figured while I had everything apart I might as well take advantage of the open engine. I bought a stage 2 Crane Cam. It went in easy. No extra mods needed. In order to run the cam they reccomend exhaust, header, and intake. I bought a hedman hedder too. I already have flowmaster from cat-back so I had my uncle continue the oversized pipe from the hedder back, keeping the cat on. I have a K&N FilterCharger on it's way. My buddy got one and felt significant power increase so I figured I might as well have one too.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner Anyway I've felt a large increase in torque and hp with the cam and hedder. The biggest improvement though is how comfortable the engine now runs at higher RPMs. Before I never liked running above 3500RPM but now it runs comfortably at 4500+. A downfall of the cam is it's definitely made for higher RPMS. It's not a great detriment but from a stop it takes more gas to get going. I was surprised though because Im still getting 17-19mpg. (I used to get 18-20). The Cam cost $190 and the hedder was $200, but I had to weld pipe from hedder to cam.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner This is my sub and amp. I have one 10' JL Audio sub being powered by a 400 watt Optimus Amp. I just bought a new deck, I chose a MP3/WMA Pioneer Premier. It ran me $140. I wanted more midrange so I replaced my 6.5 JBL's in the back with a pair of Infinity 6x9's. I purchased them for $160. Im currently shopping for two 12's and a new amp. That way I can use my 4 channel for speakers.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner Ive done a few things since the last time I updated this. I added Rancho add-a-leafs. They were quick and simple to install. Dont be fooled though, you DO need longer ubolts in order to fit the AAL. I learned the hard way. I was putting my truck back together when I realized my stock ubolts werent long enough. The whole thing cost me $70 and was well worth it. It took about an hour. It added a lot of ground clearance to my truck.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner I had been planning on getting side steps when my parents surprised me and got me then for Christmas. Theyre easy to install but did require some grinding down to get to fit. Only took about an hour. I like the look of them because they filled a gap.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner Ive been working at Les Schwab (tire store for those who dont know) so I bought new tires. I went with new 31x10.50 Toyo Open Countrys. I had them siped for better traction. They are 2.6 inches larger in diameter than my old tires and yes it did take away power. They work well and were worth the $500.

Also I purchased new shocks. Convinced that my ride didnt have to be bumpy I bought top-of-the-line shocks. They are RMX monotube shocks. They ran me $60 a shock. You dont hear much about shocks but Im here to tell you what a difference they make. They dont eliminate the bumps but they make them more rounded. (?) They made a huge difference, well worth the money.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner I added fog lights too. I bought them for $30 and mounted them in the two gaps found at the top of the valence. It was kind of difficult to mount them but worth it in the end. This is the only picture I found that had them in it, they look good this picture doesnt do them much justice though.

ToyRunna1003's 1987 Toyota 4Runner I was looking into to buying a K&N Filtercharger Injection Performance kit, which is really just a fancy name for a cold-air intake. I almost bought it until I found this graph on their website. They advertise it adds 5hp, which the graph shows it does..but not until around 4500RPM! Who needs extra hp at that high of RPM? I would have gotten had it been around 2 or 3.

In the near future I want to add a LC Engineering header, custom 6x9 in back seats, and new 6.5 in front.

Fun Runnin

Those leafs really eliminated that token 4Runner rear sag. Looks good. Even with a new leaf pack mine sags in the rear. I just trimmed the front a little and the rear fenders alot. It helps make the front and rear look a little more balanced. And the axle swap is not that hard if you have the money, time and the right tools. You have got to know how to weld.

Nice lookin runner. Very well kept. I had the lift done at a local shop. I had the 4" suspension and 3" body and got the 35s all done for about 2 grand. I still wanna go higher, at least want 38s under it.
