This page is the progress on my hood scoop. As some of you know I am making an intake system for my car. It will come in my hood scoop and go straight down 8 inches to the throttle body.

I know this is not a true "ram air." Since my car usually never goes above 80mph there is no way to actually force, or "ram," air into the throttle body; there just isn't enough speed to provide the necessary pressure. I realized this while reading up on the subject and durring the work itself. So, instead of spending unnecessary amounts of time fabricating a sealed system from the scoop to the TB that's why I merely cut a hole in the scoop and placed a filter directly onto the throttle body inlet. This way there will always be more than enough cold air for the TB to suck in with no way possible for a straighter path into the throttle body. I also figure that the excess air entering the scoop that doesn't get sucked into the TB will help cool the engine too. Two birds with one stone!=)

here are some pics:

this is the scoop I bought off ebay for $25. The mesh was thin and bent every time I moved the scoop around so first I took that out to solve that problem.

next I cut the front bottom off, because as my dad said, it looked like crap without the mesh and didn't need to be there anymore anyway(see I gave you credit)

Here we go with the begining of the real work!

first I got the filter. Since the air is flowing through the scoop down into the engine I made sure to get a filter with not only side flow but also top flow. This filter works pretty good. Also, it's got the wire mesh on it to keep out some of the moisture flow.

This is a pic of what the filter looks like installed in place of the factory airbox. I know it looks kinda out of place there, but it works nice. I needed it to be as close and as straight of a shot from the scoop as possible.

The factory air box has a hose running into this inlet, so this small filter is perfect for the job!

After measuring to make sure to cut in the correct area I, first, cut out the support and went on to cut the place for the air to flow into the engine compartment.

All I have left to do is to fabricate a piece of fiberglass that fits under the scoop and directs the air flow more into the direction of the filter. That and make it look presentable!
