First shown at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, the 117 Coupe was penned by Giugiaro while he was at Ghia Design Studio. Released in Japan in 1968, it was initially made at the rate of only 50 per month. This was because of the complex panel design which meant early models were hand assembled until 1972.

The above is my 1980 117 Coupe Giugiaro Edition. I bought it in 2002 in Japan and it joins my Subaru SVX and Isuzu Piazza Nero. I have spent the last 18 months restoring it to its original condition.

The Giugiaro Edition was released in 1979 and featured a unique interior design. The design was a copy of the interior of the Lancia Megagamma concept car done by Giugiaro for the 1978 Turin Motor Show. Isuzu used imported German fabric and leather inside. Was available in only black or silver.

Thats a pretty cool, little unique car mate. Good find. Didn't even know of them till I saw yours. You can see the birth of other Isuzu models out of its shape.

Man, I wish there were more 117s in Australia. Almost managed to buy 1 of 2 in Adelaide. Got shafted tho. Well, back to the Belletts! Awesome cars... Still find-able in Japan in 2002? thought they'd all be flat by now!
