Welcome to the world of CarPC's or Carputers. Here is a pic of my new CarPC. It is a variation of the capuccinoPC, it has an 800mhz celeron processor, 256mb of ram, a 5gig HD, and a cd-r/dvd rom. In this picture I am using a program called MediaCar.

Here is another shot with the flash on so you can see the set of keys to give you a better idea of its size.

This is a picture of the 8" Lilliput touch screen. This screen is well known among the enthusiasts of carPC's.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of how deep the screen is.

Here is another picture of the computer where you can see a cd in it to give you another idea of how small this thing is.

Here is a picture to show you some of the features that are built in.

This is a picture of the CD-R/DVD drive that will be going in the dash right below my radio.

This is an ITPS, what it does is hooks up inbetween the power and the computer. It has a lead that goes to it and tells the computer to start up once the ignition is turned on and tells it to shut down when the igition is turned off.

As of right now I am running a program called MediaEngine that is in the startup folder on the computer so when it is started up MediaEngine starts and starts playing music. Right now the music starts playing about 20 seconds after the computer sees power. Here is a picture of the skin I made for MediaEngine. Do you like the car on the main screen? This program is used totally by tough screen, the icons across the top are what are used to navigate the media on the computer.

Here is a picture of the screen while playing MP3's, as you can see the album cover is displayed in the upper right corner.

Here are some photos of the progress. Once I get the garage cleaned out and get some time I will be fiberglassing the screen into the dash.

Check out http://www.mp3car.com for more information on carputers. Also check out http://www.mediaengine.org/ to check out MediaEngine or to download my skin.
****This part of the project got scrapped because I didn't like the way it turned out.****
Here is a picture of the front after the expanding foam has been applied.

Here is one side.

Here is the other

Here is the Back.

After the foam cures I will be able to trim the foam as I see fit so that fiberglass can be layed over it. This will creat an area that acts as a bezel. I was origionally going to mold the screen directly into the dash but I think this will give me a cleaner more professional look when I am done. I can't wait for this stuff to cure so I can trim, fiberglass, sand, and paint it.

The CarPC is now up and running. There are some wiring issues to clear up but I just don't have the time right now and I was getting really impatient so I threw it together and fired it up.

All together I was very impressed with the way everything turned out considering this was the first time I had ever worked with fiberglass. Now my new sub boxes and kick panels are started. The dash and all other fiberglass parts I am working on at this time are going to be painted metallic silver to match the racing stripes on the car.
